A Secret Service agent was arrested for allegedly sending along a photo of his genitals to a law enforcement officer posing as a 14-year-old girl, and then requesting meetings and sexual encounters.
Delaware State Police apparently broke the case during a sting operation, the Hill reported. CNN reported it on Twitter: “A U.S. Secret Service [agent] has been arrested after sending lewd material to what he thought was a 14-year-old girl.”
Lee Robert Moore, 37, of Church Hill, Md., was chatting on a cellphone social media app with an undercover Delaware State Police detective when he sent the naked photo and requested to meet, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Delaware.
Some of the messages were allegedly sent while he was at work in the uniformed division of the Secret Service on White House property, the Hill reported.
The agent allegedly sent one message that read, the Hill reported: “What would make you more nervous, riding on the motorcycle with me or having sex with me?”
CNN reported the agent turned himself in to authorities and was subsequently charged with the attempted transfer of obscene material to a minor.
The Secret Service’s reputation has been tarnished in recent years due to various sexual scandals and instances of agent misconduct, including one that saw the president’s protectors setting up dalliances with prostitutes during overseas’ stops.
But the Secret Service isn’t the only federal agency tainted by scandal in recent days.
USA Today reported Defense Secretary Ash Carter just ordered the removal of Army Lt. Gen. Ron Lewis over allegations of misconduct.
Carter said, the news outlet reported: “I directed that this matter be referred to the inspector general of the Department of Defense for investigation.”
Carter also said he was “very surprised” at the allegations, the specifics of which he refused to discuss.
Lewis was reportedly well regarded among Defense colleagues and the news of his removal shocked.
The matter’s been turned over to the inspector general for further investigation.
“I have confidence in the inspector general’s ability to determine the facts,” Carter said, USA Today reported. “The Department of the Army will then take action as appropriate.”
Lewis will remain in the Army but report to Gen. Daniel Allyn, the vice chief of staff, the Chicago Tribune reported. Lewis had served three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before taking up the senior military assistant post to Carter.
