Friend,
Right now, 10 Republicans* have caved, which is the number needed to pass a “compromise” bill.
The exact language of that compromise has not been released yet. But that hasn’t slowed down Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“I will put this bill on the floor as soon as possible,” he said.
Below is some of what’s in the sweeping bill HR 7910, which has already passed the House:
Increases the age requirement to purchase certain guns to 21. This means someone can join the military and die for our nation or get married and have children but cannot own certain guns.
Requires registration to transfer a gun to a family member.
Mandates all firearms be traceable and expands the prohibition on “ghost guns,” which are firearms built from purchased parts.
Bans “large-capacity magazines,” which the bill defines as anything that holds more than 10 rounds. Even some concealed carry pistols, like the Sig Sauer P365 and the Ruger Security-9, have larger capacities than this limit allows.
And much more.
Even if gun control worked (which it doesn’t), the fact is that people under 21 are responsible for only 17% of mass shootings. The bill being pushed in Congress will not even address 83% of the problems they claim they want to fix. But this is not about fixing the problem—it is about control.
The Founders knew from history that average citizens must not be disarmed. Despots, tyrants and even mass shooters target people who are disarmed.
Thomas Jefferson understood and warned about disarming the people. He wrote, “The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” And our government knows it.
That is why these radicals are pushing so hard to restrict your access to guns.
I don’t doubt the sincerity of some politicians who want to address mass shootings.
But the fact is, since 2005, 96% of mass shootings have occurred in gun-free zones.
This bill will increase the problem.
We urgently need to stop this bill.
Send this message today to Congress with an urgent fax to stop attacks on our Second Amendment now.
The rights of Englishmen to bear arms were established as far back as 700 years ago.
And there are eerily similar parallels between the attempts to disarm British citizens in the 17th century and what we are hearing from the White House and Congress today.
History has shown that disarmament precedes despotism and that truly free people are free to bear arms in defense of life and liberty.
The first Revolutionary War battle on Lexington Green was in response to the 700 British soldiers who had been dispatched to disarm the “rebels” of Massachusetts. Col. John Parker, commander of 77 ragtag colonial minutemen, boldly told them, “Stand your ground.”
Today I am calling on every American who is concerned about the loss of our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms to “Stand Your Ground.”
Get involved politically and use your First Amendment right to speak out in favor of your Second Amendment right.
We need a flood of voices in Congress to demand they block this disarmament bill.
Send your faxes today to demand the Senate not allow this gun grab to continue.
Thankfully, the U.S. Supreme Court still holds to the idea that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm.
In the 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller case, the Court struck down the District’s ban on handguns.
Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia made no bones about the validity of the Second Amendment:
Undoubtedly some think that the Second Amendment is outmoded in a society where our standing army is the pride of our Nation, where well-trained police forces provide personal security, and where gun violence is a serious problem. That is perhaps debatable, but what is not debatable is that it is not the role of this Court to pronounce the Second Amendment extinct.
But I return to the first quote I shared with you: “If the Supreme Court objects, we will expand it.”
These tyrants are not playing around, and they are even willing to overpower the U.S. Supreme Court.
They want to know where every gun is and who owns it at all times.
But the risk to American freedom is way too great.
Politicians are intent on demonizing and banning the AK-47, but the vast majority of mass shootings happen with a handgun.
Just 14% of them are with a rifle only, while 82% of all mass shootings include a handgun.
These politicians are not even trying to address the real problem.
They want to use your tax dollars to get one step closer to grabbing your guns.
Tell Congress in no uncertain terms to leave our constitutional freedoms ALONE.
