Persevere
Joanne Sher
Yet they did not listen to Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck; they did more evil than their fathers.
So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you; and you shall call to them, but they will not answer you.
Jeremiah 7:26-27 NASB
Can you imagine being Jeremiah - being told to tell the children of Israel to repent, and knowing from day 1 that they wouldn't listen?
God commissions you to do a task that will bear NO fruit that you will see.
Personally, I'd probably find it tough to get out of bed every morning.
And maybe you CAN imagine.
And maybe you CAN imagine.
Maybe your goal - your ministry - your calling from God - is feeling just like this.
So much work - for God! - but not a bit of fruit. Discouragement is nipping at your heels.
You're wondering if maybe you misheard Him - if perhaps there is a better way.
But God's way is ALWAYS the best way.
But God's way is ALWAYS the best way.
And God's time is not ours.
If Jeremiah hadn't preached like this, WE wouldn't have benefitted from his words.
Maybe, in a sense, Jeremiah's "hopeless, fruitless" preaching was to give US hope, and help US bear fruit. Those who came after him - and who come after us - wouldn't have the rich lessons within its pages.
And that's just what I can see at the moment.
