Hello Friend, I love technology, and I’ve always been a gadget guy. But there comes a point when there is such thing as too much. I think there's something about a screen that can actually be numbing to the mind and body. Screen use among young children is very high these days—we’re talking multiple hours every day for the average child. As parents and grandparents, that’s where you can step in and say, “Let’s put the devices away for now. Turn off the electronics, put away the iPad, and set down the phone.” Then put the child on your lap and open a book. Let them turn the pages and absorb the pictures at their own pace. Read to them and talk about what you are reading. Engage them. Interact more. Do things together. Go for walks and have discussions. Nothing takes the place of those special times that build relationships. We have two great resources to help you in this area. They are children’s books for very young kids written by Sally Lloyd-Jones: Baby’s Carry Along Bible, and Near: Psalm 139. They are yours in thanks for a donation of any amount to Harvest Ministries today. |
