Dear Fellow American,
Are you keeping busy these days?
During the winter months, when I spend more time indoors, I have the chance to get caught up on reading. One book I’ve been thinking about a lot lately these days is George Orwell’s 1984.
As you may know, this classic work has served as a warning of the dangers of totalitarianism and “doublethink” for decades.
Just consider the chilling slogans Orwell puts in the mouth of the book’s ruling party:
“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.”
Like me, you probably think that 1984 seems a little too relevant right now. My boss, Larry P. Arnn, the president of Hillsdale College, regularly teaches a class on “Totalitarian Literature” here on campus. 1984 is one of the books he has his students read.
He recently spoke on the parallels between the sinister “Party” Orwell writes about in 1984 and our current political climate. Dr. Arnn also emphasized the importance of a proper education to the preservation of freedom.
You can read all of Dr. Arnn’s remarks in Imprimis, our digest of liberty, by clicking the link below:

As an avid Imprimis reader, you know that education is liberty’s surest defense. And a proper education is needed now more than ever—ignorance is NOT strength!
So that’s why, in addition to sharing this issue of Imprimis with you, I’d like to thank you again for helping us increase the circulation of Imprimis to more than 5.6 million households and businesses. This digest of liberty continues to be a vital part of our educational outreach efforts across the nation, and it’s all thanks to your support.
So please enjoy what’s left of these winter months by reading this important issue of Imprimis—and feel free to share it with your friends and family.
From one Imprimis fan to another,
