Hello Friend,
I once had a photo of Billy Graham and myself that I had printed out because I wanted Billy to sign it, so I took it with me when I was going to see him. Billy very graciously signed it, of course, and I rolled it up in one of those cardboard tubes to keep it in good condition for my trip back home.
I had the tube with the poster in my hotel room, but as it turns out, the hotel maid, thinking the tube was trash, threw it in the dumpster! I just about had a heart attack. I went and found the dumpster, clawed my way through it, found the poster, and put it back in my room.

Now, Billy Graham’s son Franklin is a long-time friend of mine, and he said to me, “Come on up to Daddy’s room.” So I go up to the room where Billy and Franklin are, and Franklin says, “Daddy, you know that picture you signed and gave to Greg?” Billy says, “Yes.” Franklin says, “Greg threw it away!”
“No!” I exclaimed, “I didn’t throw it away! The maid threw it away.”
“No, Daddy, Greg threw it away.”
Billy is kind of smiling now, and I think to myself, “They are in on this joke together to make me feel uncomfortable and anxious.” I knew he knew the truth, but I explained my story to Billy anyway, and we all had a good laugh.
Billy was just a great guy to be around. He took his message very seriously, but he never took himself too seriously. It was always just a joy to be with him. There were so many memorable conversations and moments that will be with me forever, but I wanted to put them down in a book so that I could share them with you.
That’s just what I’ve done in Billy Graham: The Man I Knew, and you can get a copy as a thank-you gift when you donate to Harvest Ministries today. |
