Recognizing our Faith
Robert Schaetzle
“…To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours.”
(2 Peter 1:1 NIV)
Faith is such a precious gift.
It’s what we receive from God and it demonstrates our new birth.
Not only is it precious, it is truly amazing what faith can accomplish when in tune with God’s will.
Which means what we are about every day — our actions, our thoughts, and our words should all remain in harmony with Him.
Jesus taught his disciples
Jesus taught his disciples
“… truly I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you,” (Matthew 17:20 RSV).
What a promise!
What a promise!
I truly believe this promise.
But we must recognize the promise in the pretext and context Jesus is sharing it — not only to His apostles, but to us.
He answers our prayers in the context and purpose of His will, and His honor.
He also answers our prayers in His time, not ours.
Faith will also exhibit trust and obedience to follow God’s spiritual promptings.
Faith will also exhibit trust and obedience to follow God’s spiritual promptings.
Here is what the Apostle Paul shared regarding the faith of Abraham:
“No distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.” (Romans 4:20-21 RSV)
The moment God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, Abraham believed God would make a substitute way.
The moment God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, Abraham believed God would make a substitute way.
Abraham’s faith was met with a voice from Heaven and God providing a substitute in the form of a ram caught in a thicket — and Isaac’s life was spared.
The ram, a picture of Jesus taking the place of all who put their faith in Him.
