Why We Must Win in November
"Do no harm."
You've heard this phrase. It's the first line of the Hippocratic Oath, the one that medical doctors take.
The Left has co-opted this honorable phrase as the name of a dangerous bill which will absolutely do harm-to your religious freedoms and mine.
How?
By stripping Christians of protection under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, the RFRA. RFRA provides a balancing test between a government's action and religious freedom. This law has played an absolutely critical role in protecting the exercise of religion from the religious intolerance and hostility of the Left.
But if "Do No Harm" ever gets passed by Congress and signed into law, RFRA will be an empty carcass of a law. The future of our religious freedom will be in grave danger. Why? If you object to some government requirement on religious grounds, you'll no longer be free to defend yourself in court under the RFRA. No "exemption," this new bill states, "from generally applicable law" if one's religious beliefs "impose" "harm" to the dignity of someone else.
I can only imagine how such overly vague terms will be used by government officials to mean almost anything they want it to mean!
A Christian business owner could be required to cover the cost of sex-change surgery, or assisted suicide, or any number of other activities regardless of his or her religious convictions-simply because the government decided otherwise.
They don't want your faith to make any kind of real impact on what you do in the marketplace or in the public square. If you use the principles of your Christian faith to guide your business, or you attempt to lay a moral foundation with your children based on your religious beliefs, and you are at cross-purposes with the government, you would have no recourse any more under this legislation.
"Do No Harm" is a policy which would tear down basic morality as lived by people of faith for over 2,000 years. It would tear down an understanding of human sexuality, of marriage, of gender. It would create moral chaos.
Let me explain why:
We are called to be salt and light to our culture. What happens when you remove salt? You get rapid decay. What happens when society begins to decay, when it dissolves into chaos? You need more government to keep it together, to manage the chaos.
Chaos gives them the green light to expand government, to raise taxes, to limit personal responsibility, and with that, to limit personal freedom. Big-government advocates on the Left benefit from the kind of chaos that occurs when religion and morality are removed from society.
The Left will not be satisfied with quarantining your faith within the four walls of the church. Eventually, even your faith must be completely eliminated-because it affects your thoughts. And as long as you disagree with the government, you're a threat.
Without question, the "Do No Harm" Act, and other bills like it, must be stopped. And the only way to do that is to elect constitutional conservatives this November, men and women who will act on principle, and who will not be controlled by the Washington establishment.
For the moment, fortunately, there are enough constitutional conservatives in the House of Representatives to keep this legislation from advancing. But with a major election just a few short months away-and every seat in the House to be decided at the ballot box-it is imperative that conservatives be reelected, and that we add to their number.
Which means, it is absolutely crucial that values voters VOTE in this election season.
This priority is so serious that we have identified 15 states with key races. We plan to mobilize values voters and work with like-minded groups to motivate a total of more than 1.3 million NEW voters to get to the polls this November.
This is the single highest-priority goal of our Choose Freedom campaign-because this election is about freedom: our freedom as Christians.
When Christians stand up for religious freedom and speak out in support of the truth, the Left calls it discrimination, bigotry, hate. There must be a counter-balancing voice from conservatives. FRC Action speaks for you in the halls of power and in the media every day.
But we need your strong support today to mount these vitally important efforts. In this highly contentious election cycle, it is a matter of tremendous urgency that every values voter in America go to the polls, especially in local, state, and congressional races.
I realize you may have already given, and if so, thank you. But this is so critically important, I urge you to prayerfully consider giving again. This campaign is essential to all we are doing. By giving today, you will help to preserve freedom in this country-by getting values voters to the polls.
Thank you in advance. God bless you.
Standing (Eph. 6:13),

P.S. In a worst-case scenario-with a newly elected liberal president, and liberals at the helm of both houses of Congress-the "Do No Harm" Act would sail through to passage. It would become law in a matter of days. The heartbreaks of these last 7-1/2 years would be only a pale shadow of the agonies to come. Please give as generously as possible to get values voters to the polls this November. We've got to work NOW to make it happen THEN. Do not delay.
