Delight-Full - by Karen Pourbabaee
"…his delight is in the law of the Lord…" Psalm 1:2 NAS
What we delight in has great impact upon our lives. What delights us will direct us, compel us, draw us in an intended or perhaps unintended direction. The Latin derivation of delight implies enticement and ensnarement. Therefore we are to be careful what we revel in, that which brings enjoyment and satisfaction. Being delight-full with God's Word has its consequences in our lives. How blessed is the man who rejoices in the law of the Lord.
The prerequisites for God's blessings are remembrance and meditation. From Psalm 119:115-116, "I will meditate upon them and give them my full respect. I will delight in them and not forget them." (Living Bible) Psalm 1 instructs us to meditate on the Law day and night. What can we expect when we saturate ourselves with the Word?
The Word gives us counsel: "Thy testimonies are my delight. They are my counselors." (Psalm 119:24)
The Word nourishes us with spiritual strength in the battle against temptation and sin: "Thy Word have I treasured in my heart. That I might not sin against Thee." (Psalm 119:11)
The Word blesses us with great peace: "Those who love Your laws have great peace of heart and mind and do not stumble." (Psalm 119:165)
Are you satisfied with the direction of your life? Do you find yourself in an undesirable place or in disturbing situations? Examine what you are delighting in. Change your direction by allowing God's Word to entice you and ensnare you. Become delight-full with His Word. Then receive counsel, strength, and peace as you walk the path of His intended direction.
