In The Face Of Pure Evil, The Attacked Charleston Church Just Did Something Incredible
"...but no weapon formed against us shall prosper."
Charleston’s “Mother Emmanuel”, the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, held its first service on Sunday since the tragic shooting of nine of its members, including its beloved pastor Clementa Pinckney. Pinckney also served as a state senator.
The Rev. Norvel Goff Sr., the district supervisor and new interim pastor, presided over the service.
“The doors of the church are open. No evildoer, no demon in hell or on Earth can close the doors of God’s church,” Goff told the congregation, according to CNN.
“It’s by faith that we are standing here and sitting here,” he said. “It has been tough. It has been rough. Some of us have been downright angry, but through it all God has sustained us.”
“There is a time and place for everything. And now is the time to focus on the nine families. Oh, I know I’m right. So I want to say to the citizens of Charleston and to the visitors, thank you for being whom God has called you to be. Thank you for your flowers out front. Thank for for the cards and the emails and all the acts of kindness. And finally, I want to say thank you to law enforcement…” which drew loud applause from the congregation.
“I got no problem in doing that,” Goff continued. “Respect, gets respect.”
“A lot of folks expected us to do something strange and break out in a riot. Well, they just don’t know us.”
“And we are going to hold our elected officials and others accountable to do the right thing. The blood of the Mother Emanuel Nine requires us to work until not only justice in this case, but for those still living in the margin of life. Those who are less fortunate than ourselves, that we stay on the battlefield until there is no more fight to be fought,” said Goff.
“I want you to know because the doors of Mother Emanuel is open on this Sunday, it sends a message to every demon in hell and on earth,” to which the congregation applauded.
“Some wanted to divide the races between black and white and brown, but no weapon formed against us shall prosper,” Goff proclaimed.
