Promises of Peace - by Karen Pourbabaee
“The Lord will bless His people with peace.” Psalm 29:11 NAS
God calls us to peace in Psalm 34:14, “Seek peace and pursue it.” It’s an elusive quality of spirit important to attain on our journey. An overall blessing in our lives. An offensive weapon and part of the armor of God.
Ephesians 6 admonishes us to cover our feet with the gospel of peace that it may be with us every step of the way. Along the highways of life, even the back roads. Wherever we find ourselves, peace promises protection by guarding our hearts and minds. “… the peace of God… shall guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7) Once we grasp peace, we find freedom from catastrophes of soul (mind) … fear, doubt, confusion, depression, anxiety. Our hearts (spirits) shall know His peace and be shielded from those fiery darts of the evil one. Peace becomes our ally in spiritual battle.
Insomnia is a major illness, afflicting about 32 million. As God’s children, when we retire from our travels for the day, peace awaits us there too. Another promise of peace is restful sleep: “In peace I shall both lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me secure.” (Psalm 4:8) Restful sleep is an important contributor to good health, physical, mental, and spiritual. Take a dose of His peace daily. No adverse effects. Only restoration and health await.
Whether in our daily travels or nightly rest, the promise of peace is a sure anchor, a guard for our hearts and minds, an antidote for insomnia, a healing balm for spirit, soul, and body. Seek peace and pursue it!
