Devotional #15 in 1 Peter
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,
A holy nation, a peculiar people;
That ye should shew forth the praises of him
Who hath called you out of darkness
Into his marvelous light;
Which in time past were not a people,
But are now the people of God:
Which had not obtained mercy,
But now have obtained mercy.”
(1 Peter 2:9-10 KJV).
Here is a complete commentary on our salvation in two verses.
We are a chosen generation (by the new birth), a royal priesthood:
Jesus the king of kings, and our high priest commissions us to be his royal priests with direct access to him in prayer; a holy nation (our citizenship is in heaven – Philippians 3:20);
A peculiar people – (God’s own purchased possession).
These titles above originally described God’s plan for Israel (Exodus 19:5,6), but they failed miserably.
God set them aside temporarily but will restore them. (Romans 11).
We, who were not a people, have become the people of God.
We had not obtained mercy but now are receiving His mercy.
We were aliens and enemies of God (Colossians 1:21), strangers without hope and without God (Ephesians 2:12).
BUT NOW, we have become a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a peculiar people for a particular purpose.
We realize He has rescued us from all the forces of Satan’s darkness and brought us into his light.
We are totally different from the world.
Therefore, we are here to show His praise to a darkened world.
We are here to show God’s light to a world blinded by Satan and suffering drastically from that blindness.
Will you shine your light for Jesus today?
