I have been involved in mission work for a total of nearly ten years and desire to return to the field, using my calling to write and to tell stories.
But although the Lord seems to be leading in that direction, most doors remain closed and questions and confusion remain.
The necessity of working to earn my living takes away time from what my heart really longs to do more of.
But the Lord reminded me that every place I go provides opportunities to minister to and bless others, even if it isn’t in my specific area of calling.
Colossians 3:23-24 NIV says, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.”
Jesus, in his portrayal of the final judgment in Matthew 25:40, says that the righteous will hear, “‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’” NLT
So when I wait on customers as a checkout clerk, I can serve them as if they were Jesus himself.

I can do the same with the woman I am a caregiver for, the friend whose home I clean every week, and my elderly mother.
God does not count big acts of service such as preaching, evangelistic crusades, or Bible translation as more important than small acts.
God does not count big acts of service such as preaching, evangelistic crusades, or Bible translation as more important than small acts.
He is a God who blesses those who give a cup of cold water in his name (Mark 9:41), who give sacrificially even if they have little, like the widow and her few pennies (Luke 21:1-4) and our God rejoices in the day of small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10 NLT).
God tells us that if we are faithful in small things, we will be faithful in big things (Luke 16:10).

If we are faithful in the opportunities for kindness and blessing that come our way daily, we impact eternity and God is pleased.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, please open my eyes to opportunities to bless others today and to bring you glory. AMEN
