 Why He Saved Us – Robert Schaetzle

 
He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit. Titus 3:5 ESV

How wonderful it is, recognizing God saved us, not simply because of ‘good works’ we’ve achieved on our own – but because of His love and grace for us on the cross. Good works done in faith will naturally follow from within us, once we’ve believed the gospel as the Apostle James states. Our regeneration leading to spiritual renewal should be then, a constant growing and learning experience.

Desiring to share the gospel with others through the power of God’s abiding Spirit brings great joy with purpose — not as the world defines joy or pleasure, but as an inner satisfaction of our soul that nothing can compare. The Apostle Paul goes on to share in his letter to Titus; 

“…He poured out [his Spirit] on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life,” (see Titus 3:6-7).

‘Becoming His heir’ brings much joy and blessing to those we share with. It gives purpose to our own heart, with reward – plus it gives new birth to those who will receive our Lord, becoming a ‘new creature’ as promised in II Corinthians 5:17.

Becoming new, God’s Holy Spirit becomes our guide. This initiates His promise to us as we listen to the ‘Voice of His Word,’ (Psalm 103:20). Jesus similarly shares; 

“Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” John 14:21

Regeneration and Spiritual renewal indeed give us cause to becoming a good ‘fisher of men,”’ (Matthew 4:19).

Father, daily meditating and understanding your word in our heart brings blessings and helps us understand why You saved us. AMEN
