Apparently, a church that's been part of the downtown scene in Salinas, California, for over a quarter of a century just isn't vibrant enough for what the city wants.

If that sounds like it's against the law to you, a court disagrees.

A Bay Area federal court has ruled that the city of Salinas can push out the New Harvest Christian Fellowship, an evangelical assembly that's been there for 25 years, because of the fact it wants "a pedestrian-friendly, active and vibrant Main Street," Fox News reported.

The city's zoning code was amended in 2006 to ban "[c]lubs, lodges, places of religious assembly, and similar assembly uses" on the first floor of buildings in the downtown area. The move had been made "to stimulate commercial activity within the City's downtown, which had been in a state of decline."

New Harvest, which had rented on Main Street for decades, bought a building on the same street in 2018. It requested to use the first floor for worship but was denied.

When powerful authorities want to get you, they have a good chance of getting you. The average person doesn't have the finances to defend against the unlimited, taxpayer-funded pockets of the government.

If prosecutors think they may not have a good chance of convicting you at trial, they can threaten to stack felony charges, so if you are found guilty at trial you could end up with what amounts to a life sentence. This terrifies people, not knowing for sure how the trial could turn out, especially if they can't afford a powerful legal team. So they accept a guilty plea that will result in a relatively short sentence. But everyone then thinks they must have been guilty.

In a scathing rebuke Monday of a ruling supported by Chief Justice Roberts against abortion restrictions, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling has no constitutional basis and must be overruled.

Thomas issued the dissent in the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision in June Medical Services v. Russo to strike down a Louisiana law. The law requires that individuals who perform abortions at clinics have admitting privileges in a nearby hospital.

The majority found the law unconstitutional, concluding it places an undue burden on women seeking abortions.

But in his 20-page dissent, Thomas called the right to an abortion an erroneous precedent grounded in a "legal fiction."

The Supreme Court ruled against a ban on taxpayer funding of religious schools Tuesday in a monumental win for school choice.

Chief Justice John Roberts joined conservative justices in a 5-4 ruling backing a Montana tax-credit scholarship program that gives residents credit if they donated to private scholarship organizations, according to Fox News, which would help the students pay for the private school of their choice.

The Montana revenue department had sought to prevent scholarships from going to religious schools, and the Montana Supreme Court had then struck down the whole program, the publication reported.

The more I’ve thought about this phrase, the more I believe it. There is now a small group of passionate people working hard to destroy our American way of life. Treason and treachery are rampant and our rule of law and those law enforcement professionals who uphold our laws are under the gun more than at any time in our nation’s history. If former Vice President Joe Biden wins the election in November, public schools across the country would be forced to allow biological males who identify as transgender girls to compete in girls’ sports, according to Biden’s public statements.

Though Biden has been slow to talk about the transgender athlete issue specifically — his campaign didn’t return multiple emails seeking comment — he previously pledged to pass the Equality Act within his first 100 days of taking office. The bill would require public schools to allow biological males who identify as transgender girls to compete in girls’ sports.

The Equality Act passed the House with unanimous support from Democrats in May 2019 but didn’t come up for a vote in the Republican-controlled Senate. While Republicans currently hold 53 Senate seats, five current GOP seats are considered tossups in November, according to the Cook Political Report. Republicans are expected to flip just one Democratic Senate seat: that of Alabama Sen. Doug Jones.
