You Speak What’s In Your Heart

“…Out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks,” (Luke 6:45 NKJV)
“Oh no — I can’t believe I just said that!”
As adults, we really don’t need to say everything we think, but we do need to recognize why we say certain things.
Are we mad, angry, hurt, sad — or was it some other excuse we used to justify our words?
Let’s listen to what comes out of our mouths, and pay close attention to the words we speak — it could be a sign of a ‘heart’ condition.
The truth is, regardless of why you said a certain thing, what comes out of your mouth is a result of the information you allow into your heart on a daily basis. If you put garbage in, then garbage will come out.
Do you find yourself feeling bad about what you have said and wish you could take it back?
The reality is you can never take it back.
You can ask forgiveness from God and from the person, your words were directed to — but once the words are spoken, they can never be unspoken, just like a scrambled egg can never be unscrambled.
We really need to give ourselves a ‘heart exam’ often.
Don’t let the news, TV, movies or worldly desires fill your heart. Keep your eyes on the things of God.
Let that be what fills your heart, then the words coming from your mouth will be sweet, not bitter. Think about the words you are about to speak and you will discover what is the driving force behind them.

Prayer: Lord help me to pay close attention to what I allow to come into my heart and out of my mouth. Help me to be quick to listen and slow to speak. Let my words be pleasing to you and a comfort to those that hear them.
