Obedience
John Custer
David was hot, tired, and thirsty. He was at the cave of Adullam while engaged in conflict with the Philistines. In despair, he said to his companions, “Oh that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem.” II Samuel 23:15 NIV
His loyal friends, at great peril, went behind enemy lines and got him the water he requested.
But, David’s conscience would not allow him to drink the water, so he poured it on the ground.
The friends did their deed for David because of their devotion to him.
Likewise, when God requests us to do something, whether we have astounding results or no results, God will judge us on our devotion to Him.
Likewise, when God requests us to do something, whether we have astounding results or no results, God will judge us on our devotion to Him.
He calls us to be obedient to the faith.
Perhaps you are a minister of a church that has not grown, or a teacher of students that don’t respond, or a missionary with few converts.

What is important is that you faithfully do what God has called you to do to the best of your ability.
A friend of mine translated the entire New Testament into an unwritten language that took years.

I asked him later how many of those people are serving the Lord now.
He told me, “Few, if any.”
God will reward him because he was obedient.
What we do for Jesus shows our devotion to the Lord, just as David’s friends were devoted to him.
What we do for Jesus shows our devotion to the Lord, just as David’s friends were devoted to him.
That should be encouraging because when we leave the results to God, we will neither receive the glory nor the blame for the results, only for our obedience.
God alone is aware of how our life has impacted others.
Lord, help us to trust you for the results of what you have led us to do.
