PROF SAYS MEN, WOMEN BIOLOGICALLY DIFFERENT, COLLEGE GOES BONKERS
Investigation of instructor now taking place
A retraction is needed, activists claim.
After all, an investigation already is under way into the “anti-feminism” and “transphobia” of a university professor.
All because he said there are biological differences between men and women.
RT.com reported professor Germund Hesslow of the neurophysiology department at Lund University in Sweden was accused by a student of making offensive statements in a lecture.
So far, he’s refused to back down.
The report said it was during a course on heritage and environment at the school that he cited “empirical research which supports the idea that there are differences between men and women which are ‘biologically founded’ and therefore genders cannot be regarded as ‘social constructs alone.'”
But that, the student complained, violates the Swedish “value base,” which emphasizes and affirms concepts such as egalitarianism, individual freedom and equality of the sexes.
In fact, schools there are required to follow those values.
Hesslow told RT he blames “ideological reasons” for the fact some students don’t like to hear that men and women are not the same biologically.
He was called to a meeting with Christer Larsson of the medical education department after a female student said his comments were “anti-feminist.”
The Swedish language Academic Rights Watch said the school told Hesslow to retract two comments, but he declined, saying he already had explained his choice of words.
His statements included whether transsexuality is a sexual orientation is a “matter of definition.”
He said his comments were not based on a political agenda but scientific fact.
He charged the student was someone “who dislikes the lecture and is trying to find various pretexts for attacking it.”
