Jesus Manifests Himself in Us
Robert Schaetzle
“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.” 1 Corinthians 3:7 RSV
These words teach us to recognize whose authority we are under and why. But, just like a new recruit graduating from basic training is not a ready-made soldier. Our coming to Jesus for a new birth does not leave us as fully equipped in ourselves.
Putting on the title of Christian is the beginning of our journey as we learn to live by faith, no longer relying on human reasoning or academic experience. The measure of faith, apportioned to each believer by God, will increase as we faithfully trust our Lord.
Under God’s authority, we learn to recognize His Spiritual promptings, placing more value on His wisdom than our own. Seeking self is now past tense, we’ve become ‘new creatures’ in Christ, set free from the power of darkness. Living in this manner will bring hope and purpose never experienced before coming to Christ.
“If I say, “Let only darkness cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to thee, the night is bright as the day; for darkness is as light with thee.” Psalm 139: 11-12
These two promises tell us that when moments of concern appear as the loneliness of early morning hours, even the darkness is as light with God. His hope and purpose lead us when we don’t know the way. These are the moments when Jesus manifests Himself in us.
He multiplies our faith as we learn to lean on Him more each day.
