That Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon and Apple all rely on the Southern Poverty Law Center to determine the credibility of who’s a “hater” and who’s not represents prima facie proof the “Speech Code Cartel” are biased to the hopelessly extreme left –
unfit for their privileged roles in a civil society of free speech, free press, freedom of religion and, perhaps most importantly of all, free elections.
Perhaps you missed the latest scandal in the history of the SPLC, which has always been about accusing anyone and anything two degrees to the right of Hillary Clinton of being a “hater,” a “fascist,” a “racist” or a “Nazi.”
Its secret fund-raising tool – which is ultimately what the SPLC is all about – for sliming Republicans, conservatives, evangelical Christians and other non-leftist activists, media and personalities in the most vile, unjustifiable and hysterical ways imaginable.
Occasionally, the SPLC gets its comeuppance – in the courtroom or anywhere else where common decency and fair play might rule.
Such was the case with British Muslim Maajid Nawaz and his think-tank, the Quilliam Foundation, when they were smeared in the SPLC’s “Field Guide to Anti-Muslim Extremists.”
Nawaz, you see, is what most reasonable people would characterize as a “former Islamist radical turned whistleblower who calls for the modernization of Islam in columns for the Daily Beast,” a most unlikely forum for someone of his courage.
When Nawaz threatened to sue the SPLC for defamation, the SPLC, recognizing its own vulnerability in courtrooms where facts actually matter, caved like the proverbial house of cards.
“We have taken the time to do more research,” groveled the SPLC. It turns out Nawaz has made “valuable and important contributions to public discourse,” the group adding that he is “most certainly not” an anti-Muslim extremist, and concluding,
“We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Mr. Nawaz, Quilliam, and our readers for the error.” The settlement further stipulated that the SPLC’s president, Richard Cohen, would film a video apology, prominently displayed on its website, and distribute the apology to every email address and mailing address on the SPLC mailing list.
That’s what you get when you rely on an extremist left-wing group as a legitimate source of unbiased information – which is what Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon and Apple all do. To the emerging new “Speech Code Cartel,” the SPLC comprises the undisputed experts on “hate speech” and political correctness.
It’s worth noting that even Barack Obama’s heavily politicized FBI, still haunting us today, dropped the SPLC from its list of resources about hate groups.
Way back in 2010, Ken Silverstein of Harper’s revealed what even informed leftists (a rare breed indeed) quickly realized – that the SPLC is nothing more than a group of shamelessly opportunistic fundraisers posturing as the scourge of racists and champions of the working class and minorities.
Do you know how the SPLC achieved this reputation? In 1987, the group sued the United Klans of America, an organization with no assets, over the lynching murder of Michael Donald. His grieving mother, Beulah Mae Donald, realized $52,000 from the court victory. But the SPLC exploited the fundraising appeals (including a photograph of Donald’s corpse) to rake in $9 million in donations. That was the start of something big that led to a net endowment in 2016 of $319 million!
Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook not only elevated the SPLC to “expert” status in his mega-corporation, he personally pledged $1 million to the group and put an SPLC donation button in the company’s iTunes store.
In 2010, the Southern Poverty Law Center put the Family Research Council headed by Tony Perkins (not to be confused with “Psycho” star Anthony Perkins) in the “hate” crosshairs. A few years later, a crazed gunman, who later admitted to the FBI that he was guided by the SPLC’s rhetoric and "hate map," walked into the FRC Washington headquarters with a 9mm and lots of ammo, determined to “kill as many as possible and smear Chick-fil-A sandwiches in victims’ faces.”
The gunman who shot Republican House majority whip Steve Scalise and three others in an attack on Republicans last year was also inspired by the SPLC.
In 2015, the SPLC smeared soft-spoken Dr. Ben Carson, later a presidential candidate and secretary of Housing and Urban Development, as an “extremist” – later apologizing as profusely as it did to Nawaz.
I can’t even tell you how long the SPLC has been vilifying me and WND.
As Kyle Smith, critic at large for National Review wrote recently: “The SPLC can no longer be fairly termed a nonpartisan watchdog group. It has become a hate group itself. Actual political violence is of no interest to it unless it can be deployed in service of the SPLC’s thinly veiled campaign to damage the Right.”
In 2012, when National Review’s Charles C.W. Cooke called up the SPLC to ask whether the group was adding Occupy Wall Street to the list of hate groups it tracks after three anarchists linked to the movement were caught plotting to blow up a bridge in Cleveland (all three later pleaded guilty), an SPLC apparatchik explained that his group “only tracks those who commit violence or who seek to destroy whole systems in the name of an ideology.” Since this was exactly what the Occupy fanatics were up to, Cooke was puzzled. “They were anarchists,” the spokesman told Cooke.
Well, the spokesman added sheepishly, “We’re not really set up to cover the extreme Left.”
Evidently the SPLC doesn’t understand that, on the political spectrum, anarchists are actually members of the extreme right, just a few degrees east of libertarians. Fascists are on the left, just a few degrees east of communists.
Are Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon and Apple liberal dupes of these charlatans? Or, is it the other way around – with the billionaire “Speech Code Cartel” just going with the flow of the scammy, exploitative spadework done over decades by the race-baiting hucksters of the SPLC?
You decide.
I say a plague on both their evil houses.
This is what WND and the entire family of independent, alternative media are up against. The SPLC sets the ground rules for the “Speech Code Cartel,” and the Google-Facebook axis affirms the SPLC. It’s a convenient axis of evil.
