L’Oreal Hires Hijab-Wearing, Anti-Semitic Model
L’Oreal hired their first-ever hijab-wearing hair model–but now, she’s attracting attention for a slew of anti-Israel comments on Twitter.
Throughout July 2014, Amena Khan fired off a string of eyebrow-raising tweets that attacked the Jewish republic.
On July 10, she asked then-British Prime Minister David Cameron over Twitter, “Do you staunchly support Israel’s actions in terrorising innocent civilians?”
The next day, she was apparently less than enthralled by Cameron’s answer, replying, “U repeatedly say “nobody is above the law”. Well, under international law, Israel is an illegal state. Yet u support them. EXPLAIN.”
Over a week later, Khan was still at it, tweeting, “Remember: the brutal murder of Palestinians had been occurring MANY years before the formation of Hamas. Israel’s excuses are blatant lies,” and, “For CENTURIES Arabs, Jews & Christians lived peacefully side by side in Palestine. Until the creation of Israel.”
On July 21, 2014, she came out swinging again: “Israel = Pharoah. Both are child murderers. Insha’Allah, defeat also awaits the former; it’s only a matter of time.”
And, finally, Khan capped off her rant on July 26, tweeting, “Israel is a sinister state & the ones who suffer most are innocent children.”
On Monday morning, Khan was forced to apologize for the controversy–and step down from the L’Oreal campaign. On Twitter, she wrote: “I deeply regret the content of the tweets I made in 2014, and sincerely apologize for the upset and hurt they have caused.”
She added, “With deep regret, I’ve decided to step down from this campaign because the current conversations surrounding it detract from the positive and inclusive sentiment that it set out to deliver.”
