Rev. Franklin Graham to CNN: God Put Trump in the Presidency
CNN's Don Lemon repeatedly argued that because he uses harsh language and has been accused of having an affair (13 years ago) President Donald Trump is not qualified to be president, but Rev. Franklin Graham countered those points by noting that "all of us are sinners" and added that he believes Trump is president because "God put him there."
Rev. Graham also said the allegations of an extra-marital affair go back at least 12 years whereas the confirmed sexual escapades involving young women with Bill Clinton, Jack Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson occurred while those men were president.
On CNN Tonight, Jan. 23, host Don Lemon asked evangelical leader Franklin Graham, "Why do you think evangelicals were so willing to call out, say, Bill Clinton's behavior but fought for President Trump?"
Rev. Graham said, "I think that's a very good question, Don. And I appreciate that. The difference is what happened with Bill Clinton, he did this while he was in office and that's the difference.
And what Kennedy did, the affairs he had was while he was in office.
The affairs that Johnson had were while he was in office."
"These alleged affairs, they're alleged with Trump, didn't happen while he was in office," said Graham. "This happened 11, 12, 13, 14 years ago. And so, I think there is a big difference and not that we give anybody a pass, but we have to look at the timeline and that was before he was in office."
"And I think the president has changed quite a bit in the last 11 years," said Graham.

Later in the interview, CNBN's Lemon pressed that evangelicals were being hypocritical for ignoring Trump's sometimes uncouth behavior. Rev. Graham responded, Trump "is a businessman. He's in business meetings, he talks a certain way. And he's trying to get the point across."
Graham continued, "Don, I believe -- I believe Donald Trump is a good man. And I believe he is the president of the United States for a reason.
"I think God put him there," said Graham. "He offended everybody, just like you said. He seemed to be -- he did everything wrong as a candidate and he won and I don't understand it."
"Other than I think God put him there," he said.
"And Don, listen, all of us are sinners, you, me, and Donald Trump, there is a lot that we can do to improve," said Graham. "Donald Trump is not perfect. He is not president perfect. Again, I believe when president perfect comes down the road, we'll vote for him."
