The Careful Witness
Toni Babcock
The Lord has a word for everyone who shares a word on His behalf. In the Bible we read,
"Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few." (Ecclesiastes 5:2 KJV)
Snap - some of us better get to work on this - because we are always talking.
"In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin…" (Proverbs 10:19 KJV).
Too many loose words give the old flesh the chance to sneak its tainted two cents in, and Jesus certainly doesn't need our loose change. Who knows how much damage can be done by loose words spoken from a tainted tongue? Only God does.
That's why it is so important to be led by the Holy Spirit in everything we say. It's critical to keep anger and malice, self-righteousness, or a prideful spirit out of the mix, keeping in mind that although we are saved, we are still saved sinners.
We cannot of course, sit back and say nothing about our friend and Savior.
"The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. All thy works shall praise thee O LORD, and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power," (Psalm 145:9-11 KJV).
There you have it.
Believers in Jesus open their mouths and share Him - often. It's not supposed to come across as "pushing God in your face" - although some may interpret it that way.
Well, whatever. Some things a Christian has no control over.
You just can't muzzle a true believer in Jesus.
