Invitation to Faith

“Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” Luke 5:4 NAB
Jesus was strolling along the shores of Galilee when he spied two empty boats, for the fishermen were cleaning their nets alongside them. Their work was done. Jesus chose Simon Peter’s boat to preach from, asking him to navigate a short way out from the shore. And when He finished speaking, Jesus extended an invitation to faith:
“Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
Peter stated the reality of his circumstances; he had worked hard all night and caught nothing. Then he continued, “Master…but at Your command I will lower the nets.” (Luke 5:5) What had changed for Peter? The Word. There was something in Jesus’ Word that stirred him. That brought him to the brink of faith. That placed him in awe of this traveling preacher he now called Master.
He cast his net with abandon that day, and his life was forever changed.
Two boats full of fish were more than these fishermen could ever dream of. The Word had changed their circumstances and transformed their lives. Peter and his crew decided to follow Jesus, leaving their old lives behind.
In whatever boat you find yourself, welcome the Lord.
Listen carefully to His Word. There will be a call to action, to cast your net and follow Him. With that first step of trust, He is there beside you in the boat. He will help you navigate through the choppy seas and storms until serene waters surround you.
Welcome His invitation to faith. Let down your nets and wait for the catch!
