Look Who Was Just Slapped With $7 Million Fine For Filing Fake Food Stamp Claims

Here’s a quick study in liberal hypocrisy:

During the housing crisis in 2008, remember how liberals flipped out when they found out that some bank executives had granted themselves bonuses?

Bonuses that they didn’t really earn, because the people to whom they were selling houses couldn’t really afford to buy them?

If you listen to liberal news sites (and I wouldn’t, if I were you), this is literally all they talked about for months. They were furious.

Well, one of the most liberal states in the country just got caught doing this: granting itself a bonus, year after year, for selling a record number of a certain something. Something not all of their customers actually needed.

And so far, I’m hearing nothing but crickets from the Mainstream Media.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (WDHS) has agreed to pay the United States $6,991,905 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act in its administration of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Now, if you’re not familiar with it all, SNAP is welfare. Same thing. And states get a bonus of federal taxpayer money if they meet certain goals.

Again, to be clear, if a state meets federal goals, they get loads of taxpayer money. Well, the good people in the government of Wisconsin couldn’t quite meet those goals. So they fudged the numbers.

Then they brought in an expert to help them fake the numbers.

[Wisconsin] admitted that, beginning in 2008, it utilized the services of Julie Osnes Consulting, a quality control consultant, to review the error casesidentified by quality control workers.

[Wisconsin] further admitted that based on instructions from Julie Osnes Consulting it implemented several improper and biased quality control practices.

Now, the more of those ‘error cases’ that Wisconsin reports, the lower its score. And the lower that score, the less bonus money Wisconsin gets.

So Wisconsin’s solution was to hire someone to help every ‘error case’ look like a success case. Voila! Free taxpayer money.

Don’t worry, though – it gets worse.

Soft drinks were the top commodity bought by food stamp recipients.

Oh…well…that’s healthy…

Food stamp recipients spent approximately $357,700,000 buying soft drinks.

That was more than they spent on any other “food” commodity—including milk ($253,700,000), ground beef ($201,000,000), “bag snacks” ($199,300,000) or “candy-packaged” ($96,200,000), which also ranked among the top purchases.

Add those numbers up. $1,107,900,000. Over one billion dollars spent in Wisconsin, on junk food.

And Wisconsin’s fine was…what, again? Oh, yes. Just under seven million dollars.

What a load of corruption and waste.
