GOD'S LIGHT IN THE MIDST OF ANTIFA'S BRUTAL DARKNESS

As antifa (the paramilitary arm of the radical left) rages against God and government in our streets today, it’s important to know the ultimate reason why.

The problem isn’t the presence of darkness in the streets; it’s the absence of light in the heart. 

And when the light of God’s word is turned off in the human heart, creatures of darkness begin to move about freely – 

which is how antifa roams about with such ease in today’s America.

Dressed in all black from head to toe, these terrorists beat people into comas, throw Molotov cocktails into conservative events, forcibly shut down public forums, abuse college professors and target free-speech gatherings by throwing urine-filled water bottles at police.

Yet while folks like MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and others rightfully call for a renewal of “democratic norms and the rule of law,” 

it’s important to understand that antifa is not the ultimate problem.

When God’s word has been ignored in a nation (or even worse, redefined) the light of God’s truth grows dark. 

The very foundation of “democratic norms and the rule of law” is gone. 

And in its place, distressed and hungry people (those hungry for truth) roam lawlessly throughout the land, 

cursing God and raging against the government.

The prophet Isaiah rightfully described this harsh reality centuries ago:

“Consult God’s instruction and the testimony of warning. If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God. Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness” (Isaiah 8:20-22).

Matthew Henry, the great Bible commentator during the birth of our nation, nailed our current moment as he elaborated on this passage three centuries ago.

He wrote: “Those that concur not with the word of God do thereby evince that there is no light, no morning light (so the word is) in them; they have no right sense of things; they do not understand themselves, nor the difference between good and evil, truth and falsehood.

“Those that shut their eyes against the light of God’s word will justly be abandoned to darkness, and left to wander endlessly, and the sparks of their own kindling will do them no kindness.

“They shall be very uneasy to themselves, by their discontent and impatience under their trouble. … they curse the king and God: when they find all their measures broken, and themselves at their wits’ end, they will forget all the rules of duty and decency, and will treasonably curse their king and blasphemously curse their God. … They begin with cursing their king for managing the public affairs no better, as if the fault were his, when the best and wisest kings cannot secure success. … They next curse their God, curse him, and die; they quarrel with his providence, and reproach that, as if he had done them wrong.”

The lawlessness and raging against God and government by antifa in our streets is a direct result of the closing of God’s book in our nation. 

We have turned off His light, darkness has risen, and nothing our leaders can do will make antifa – or the radical left –happy, because they have “shut their eyes against the light of God’s word and have been justly abandoned to darkness.”

What they want is total destruction of “democratic norms and the rule of law.”

And they’ll get it if we don’t rise up now, open God’s Word once again, and let the light of His “wholesome healing words” shine brightly.

We’d love to see a return to “duty and decency” and a full retreat of darkness and doom, but it won’t happen until we shine the light of God’s word into the famished human hearts that so desperately need it.

We’ll start shining the light by saying that the fruits of the Spirit of Christ are “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22).

If Jesus steps into the hearts of these hungry kids, we won’t need the rule of law for them – because God’s law will be written on their hearts. 

Now that’s some light for this moment!
