Charged with felony human trafficking of child, statutory rape

(MORGANTON) — A Morganton man is being held under a $1,000,000 secured bond after police discovered he’d purchased a young girl to cook, clean and perform sexual acts for him.

Pasqual Mendez, 23, of 110 Oak St., Morganton, who was employed at Case Farms, was charged with felony human trafficking of a child, assault on a female, interfering with emergency communication and statutory rape of a child less than 15 years of age.

The charges came after police responded to a 911 call at the residence on Oak Street on Sunday. When officers arrived, they found a 14-year-old girl who had been assaulted and learned she lived with Mendez, according to a press release from Morganton Department of Public Safety.
