7 SIMPLE STEPS TO SURVIVAL
Pastor, former law-enforcement officer shares what you need to do
Police officers are being ambushed nationwide. Radicals are calling for their own blacks only ethnostate in the American South. From Orlando, Florida, to Nice, France, the threat of Islamic terrorism is greater than ever, and it could strike anytime and anywhere. Massive protests are sweeping American cities, gatherings which could easily spiral into violence.
When even police are looking over their shoulder, American citizens need to know how to protect themselves. Carl Gallups, a 10-year law-enforcement veteran, pastor and the author of “Be Thou Prepared: Equipping the Church for Persecution and Times of Trouble,” says every American must be prepared for encountering dangerous situations.
“In a completely unexpected scenario of massive civil disturbance, you are at your most vulnerable,” Gallups warned. “If you happen to be traveling in the matter of your daily routine and are suddenly confronted with a massive protest (roadblock, violence, threats of violence, weapons displayed, etc.), you are probably going to be at the height of susceptibility. You might even find yourself in a nightmare situation.”
Gallups said there are seven steps to surviving this kind of nightmare situation.
And the first and most important step is “prayer.”
“To some, this will sound simplistic,” the pastor told WND. “However, to the believer, we know that miraculous things happen when God’s sincere people cover their lives in prayer – especially prayer for protection, and/or wisdom in times of extreme danger. The Internet and volumes of books are filled with account after account of God’s intervention in seemingly impossible situations – through the power of prayer alone. God’s Word is also filled with scriptural promises in this area of life. Cover yourself, daily, in prayer. Pray for your guided paths during the day, as well as those of your family and loved ones.”
The second step is to “avoid situations if possible.”
“Do everything you can to avoid a dangerous situation in the first place,” said Gallups. “This should be a matter of common sense.”
However, as Gallups notes, because of moral collapse and the threat of terrorism, the number of “safe” places to go is declining. It’s no longer true, for example, that parents in most communities would feel comfortable with letting their children play outside alone.
“Sadly, our culture and the world is changing dramatically,” mourned Gallups. “Things we did and places we went, just a few years ago, are no longer wise choices today. Reorder your life where necessary so that you and your family avoid situations of potential civil disturbance.”
Gallups also warned would be thrill seekers or even the curious to steer clear of left-wing protests.
“Resist the temptation entirely to ‘get involved’ and show up at a place of protest – even it promises to be a peaceful one,” he advised. “Remember the Dallas police massacre occurred while the police were peacefully, arm in arm, marching with and protecting the ‘peaceful’ protestors. And never, ever, ever, take your children to a place of protest. Stay many miles away from such scenarios – always.”
The third step, said Gallups, is to “be informed.”
“Stay abreast of what is happening in your community – and where dangerous things are happening the most,” he said. “Pay attention to police and news alerts. Where possible and appropriate, find out what groups cause the most trouble and arrange to follow them (spy on them) through social media. They will often advertise, or at least [suggest] as to what they are up to next and where they might be gathering.”

The fourth step is to “be prepared every time you travel.”
Gallups said every American, in these times, has to constantly be wargaming certain scenarios and imagining what is the worst that could happen.
“Regardless of where you are going or how far you are traveling, always think about the possibility of being caught up in a bad situation, or even in the worst case – having to abandon your vehicle to seek safety,” he said.
Gallups said Americans should always be asking themselves certain questions every time they are on the road.
“Are you prepared to abandon your vehicle? What preparations have you made? Do you have proper footwear in which you could flee for your life, if necessary? Do you have a bug-out-bag in your vehicle (a small backpack with water, foodstuff, fire starting supplies, toilet supplies, necessary medications, extra money, and other survival equipment) that you can quickly grab and flee with? What is the weather like when you are traveling? Do you have temporary shelter and warming supplies in your car? These and many other matters of preparation should be given serious consideration.”
Gallups advised every American should stock up their car with emergency supplies.
“Once your vehicle is properly stocked, you can get on with your daily routine,” he said. “But, if you find yourself in a nightmare scenario, or even a simple roadside emergency situation – you will be thankful you took the time to prepare.”
The fifth step is “personal protection preparation.”
At a time of rising crime, political extremism and the ever present threat of terrorism, Gallups said Americans should almost always be armed.
“This is a highly individual consideration,” he admitted. “But, if you are at all comfortable with the matter – you most certainly should have a firearm or some other type of lethal or debilitating weapon with you at all times (if possible), but most certainly when you are traveling. Your bug-out-bag should also have some extra ammo for the firearm you are most likely to have in your possession. You should also have a good, sturdy pocket knife in your bug-out-bag or on your person as well.”
The sixth step is “knowing what to do if you are caught unawares.”
The former law enforcement professional had a chilling warning for Americans – don’t expect the cops to save you.
“Don’t count on law enforcement for your personal protection – they will have their hands full and will most likely not be able to provide individual protection for people who are innocently caught up in a violent civil disturbance situation,” he said. “If you roll up on a disturbance – do not take ‘false comfort’ in the fact that you see blue lights down the street. This could turn ugly in a very short time – and you could be caught right in the middle of it.”
Gallups provided a few tips about what to do if your previous preparation has failed and you are caught, against your will, in the middle of a violent situation.
“Stay put – if at all possible – until danger passes,” he said. “Don’t try to be a hero. Don’t try and ‘defuse’ the situation on your own. Don’t try and ‘debate’ the cause. Do nothing that will further escalate the tempers around you. Defuse only by speaking words of peace, if you are forced to speak to one who is involved in the violence. Resist the urge to be aggressive or confrontational even if it goes against every fiber of sanity within you. Survive first!”
Gallups even said people should pretend to join the protest if the alternative is being isolated and attacked.
“If you can’t stay put, and the situation is getting dire, try to blend in if possible. Join the protest! Carry a sign! Chant the chants! Get in the crowd! Pretend you are ‘one of them’ if possible and then … quickly work your way to the edge of the crowd and get out! There is nothing shameful in using clever survival techniques for you and your family in a potentially deadly situation.
“”If you can’t stay put, and if you can’t join and blend – try and take cover! Get into hiding as quickly as possible until the crowd passes. You may have to take to the woods, flee deep into the night, or hide in or under whatever structure is available. If it is a life-or-death scenario – you will be very glad you had your bug-out-back with you.”
Gallups said if all attempts at concealment or escape fade, then you must trust in God and listen to what He tells you.
“In the worst case situation, where all hope is gone and it’s you or them, then you must follow what the Lord speaks to your heart in that moment,” the pastor counseled. “Such has been the case for millions of God’s people down through the centuries. Some have chosen to fight to the death, and sometimes they prevail! Others simply lay down their lives.
“Unless the Lord speaks loudly and differently to me in that horrible situation – I have already resolved to fight to the death. I have also promised the Lord to stay open to His leading. That is why I stay as prepared as I can be, at all times, logistically and spiritually. But, I also recognize that each day is lived by faith. We are not always in control of every situation or even in our ability to fight and defend. So, ultimately, it comes back to principle number one, prayer and spiritual preparation, the most important of all principles.”
Finally, Gallups counseled that every American should “educate his or her family about the need for preparedness.”
“Don’t wait for a dangerous or life threatening situation to educate those for whom you are responsible,” he said. “Discuss emergency and survival techniques for in and around your home. Don’t live your life in fear and anxiety – this is unbiblical living for the child of God.”
Indeed, Gallups said preparedness isn’t just part of being a good provider or a good American. It’s part of being a good Christian.
“It is a very biblical thing for God’s people to be reasonably prepared for the emergencies and calamities of life,” he said. “This is why I poured the over forty years of my life’s experience as a law enforcement officer and pastor into my latest book. That is why I tell people, that at all times, insofar as it is possible, ‘Be Thou Prepared.'”
