GINGRICH CALLS FOR DEPORTATION OF THOSE WHO 'BELIEVE IN SHARIAH'

U.S. 'should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background'

Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the House and talked-about pick for Donald Trump’s vice presidential slot, said on Fox News while discussing the Nice, France, terrorist attack that the United States ought to implement a testing system to root out Shariah-compliant Muslims and deport them.

On “Hannity,” Gingrich said the country “should frankly test every person here who is of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Shariah, they should be deported. Shariah is incompatible with Western civilization.”

He also called for authorities to monitor the mosques in order to identify radical elements.

Gingrich put the blame for Thursday’s Nice attack, described as a act of terrorism by France President Francois Hollande – though it’s not clear yet which terror group is responsible for the attacks – at the feet of cowardly “elites,” he said.

“[It’s] the fault of Western elites who lack the guts to do what is right, to do what is necessary and to tell us the truth, and that starts with Barack Obama,” Gingrich said, the Associated Press reported.

The Council on Islamic Relations condemned Gingrich’s statements, taking offense particularly with his suggestion Muslims ought to be subjected to a Shariah test.

But Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, has suggested similar bold actions to fight terrorism, saying several times over the last few months that America ought to put a temporary ban on immigration of Muslims.

In response to the Nice attacks that left at least 84 dead and 100 or so injured, Trump called for similarly harsh response that included restrictions on immigrants from countries with terrorist ties.

“This has to be dealt with very harshly,” he said, during his own Fox News interview. “I’d be making it very, very hard for people to come into our country from terrorist countries.

Our country has tremendous problems.

We don’t need any more problems. What are we doing?

We’re trying to be so nice, we’re trying to be so civil. I would be so extreme in terms of documentation. It only takes one or two people to create havoc.”
