Target’s Trans Bathroom Policy Really Isn’t about Bathrooms
Target has officially succumbed to the bathroom political pressure. I won’t lie; I was a fan of the products at Target stores and spent a decent amount of money there. The dollar bin placed ever-so-conveniently by the checkout line gets me every time. But what I’m not a fan of is that as of recent, Target is not only willing to lose loyal business, but also to risk the safety of their customers in the name of “political correctness.”
Bathroom privacy bills are not a form of bigotry; they are commonsense regulations that protect women and children. Making it unlawful for a person to enter the bathroom of the opposite gender of that which is on their birth certificate is not meant to discriminate against those who identify as transgender. Americans who are confused about their gender are fully loved by God and, just like me, need to find their identity in Christ instead of what the world is pushing on them.
Don’t be fooled; the issue isn’t really about bathrooms. If it were, LGBTQ activists would settle for transgender use of the already-in-effect “family” restrooms. This is about a small number of Americans who want to substitute an ideology for biological fact.
The left is trying to make bathrooms the new civil rights battleground. However, “Gender Identity” does not meet the criteria for civil rights laws against discrimination based on “race, color, national origin, sex, and religion.” The first four are inborn, involuntary, and immutable, and religion is voluntary yet protected under the First Amendment to the Constitution.
The truth is, the number of U.S. adults who identify as transgender is only about 0.3 percent. Activists will use intersex conditions as an argument, yetThe Journal of Sex Research found that only 0.018 of people actually have an intersex condition from birth.
There are, however, over 840,000 registered sex offenders in the U.S. and its territories, who would, under policies like Target’s, be allowed in women’s public restrooms. Research shows that around 33 percent of rape or sexual assault incidents to female victims were perpetrated on school property or in a public area such as a commercial venue.
Privacy bills aren’t implemented to say that those who identify as transgender are committing sexual assault; but, instead, open access laws allow for sexual offenders to pose as transgender individuals to obtain entry into the bathroom of the opposite sex. Need an example? There are numerous cases of sexual assault in commercial venues:
“A woman and her young daughter were using a bathroom in a Virginia mall when the mother saw a mirror under the stall divider, the second recent peeping incident involving a man dressed as a woman, Prince William County police say.”“Charges were filed … against a man who wore a wig and women’s clothing to disguise himself as he allegedly used a concealed camera to record ‘hours’ of video of women in a Los Angeles-area department store restroom.”“A man dressed as a woman was spotted peeping at females and photographing them in a UC Berkeley locker room.”
We’ll stop there; but if you need more proof, just do a Google search, and you’ll get more than enough results. For this reason and others, a number of Concerned Women for America’s members are writing letters to the leadership of Target stores nationwide, stating that they will not be shopping at Target stores while the open access policy is in place. America: it is extremely dangerous when corporations are more than willing to forego the safety of the majority in the name of “political correctness.” It’s a slippery slope at best. Allowing God-given biological fact to trump feelings is neither prejudice nor being intolerant; in fact, it’s loving in truth and putting the safety of Americans first.
