GET IN THE GAME
WHY WE'RE STANDING UP TO BULLIES IN N.C.
Exclusive: Jason & David Benham declare, 'Our Christian faith compels us to speak up'
Martin Luther King Jr. said that.
And here in North Carolina, as the radical left continues to try and break the will of those who support HB2 (the law overturning Charlotte’s radical bathroom bill), these words could not ring more true.
(Quick note: This has nothing to do with LGBT people as individuals. We are all citizens of this nation – and sinners in need of God’s grace – and we have equal protection under law. This is about government forcing everyone to participate in the sexual revolution.)
As small business owners in Charlotte, we’ve been interviewed by an array of television, radio and print media, all asking a similar question: “Why are you and your brother supporting HB2 as small business owners when so many big corporations are standing against it – aren’t you afraid of losing business?”
Our answer: We’re standing because it’s right. And it’s not only us standing, but thousands of small businesses across the state are as well. They just don’t have the voice big business has.
If this election season has taught us anything, it’s that Americans are tired of big government and big business telling us what we can and can’t believe! Sure, government and business have their place in society – but as servants to the public not bullies to our freedom.
Why doesn’t Adam Silver, the commissioner of the NBA, make all the bathrooms in the NBA open to everyone in his own organization? HB2 provides him the freedom to do that in our state. Why is he demanding we change the law?
Forced participation is why – straight-up hypocritical bullying. And it’s not right for us to sit quietly by, even if we lose business.
So, at the rally in Raleigh on the opening day of our Legislature, we’ll be standing on stage representing small businesses and the grassroots of North Carolina – the backbone of our state. And we’ll do our best to be their voice, to represent their common-sense values.
Our Christian faith compels us to speak up, whatever the cost. It may not be safe, popular or politically correct, but it is right.
“Therefore at such a time the prudent person keeps silent, for it is an evil time. Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and thus may the Lord God of hosts be with you. Just as you have said! Hate evil, love good, and establish justice in the gate!” (Amos 5:13-15a).
“Cowardice asks the question, is it expedient? Expedience asks the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? But conscience asks the question, is it right?
“There comes a time when one must take the position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must do it because conscience tells him it is right.
