President Obama made a somewhat startling admission during a CNN town hall discussion of guns and his views of the Second Amendment, telling his seated audience, as well as those around the nation who were watching, his own wife might want to pack heat in certain circumstances.
“At one point, Michelle turned to me and she said, ‘You know, if I was living in a farmhouse, where the sheriff’s department is pretty far away and somebody can just turn off the highway and come onto the farm, I want to have a shotgun or a rifle to make sure I was protected and my family was protected,’” Obama said, quoting his wife.
And his response to that admission?
“And she was absolutely right,” he said, the Hill reported.
Obama said the couple made the comments while campaigning through Iowa.
The CNN town hall discussion, which included numerous questions from the audience, was moderated by Anderson Cooper. During, Obama admitted he never owned a gun but fired a 12-gauge shotgun at Camp David while skeet shooting – an event that was captured in a photograph, which was widely circulated.
