ARAB PAPER: OBAMA ONLY ONE NOT TO UNDERSTAND MIDEAST
Says president misses threat that brings even Arabs and Israelis together
Bob Unruh
Nations are collapsing in the Middle East and the terror organizations, mostly backed by Iran, are filling the void, according to a new commentary published by a Saudi-owned news website.
The Jews understand that fact, the Arabs get it and the rest of the world seems to get it.
So who doesn’t?
President Barack Obama.
That’s the conclusion of Faisal J. Abbas, editor for the English-language website of Al-Arabiya.
“It is extremely rare for any reasonable person to ever agree with anything Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says or does,” he wrote Tuesday, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.
“However, one must admit, Bibi did get it right, at least when it came to dealing with Iran. The Israeli PM managed to hit the nail right on the head when he said that Middle Eastern countries are collapsing and that ‘terror organizations, mostly backed by Iran, are filling in the vacuum’ during a recent ceremony held in Tel Aviv.”
Abbas wrote that in just a few words, Netanyahu “managed to accurately summarize a clear and present danger, not just to Israel (which obviously is his concern), but to other U.S. allies in the region.”
“What is absurd, however, is that despite this being perhaps the only thing that brings together Arabs and Israelis (as it threatens them all), the only stakeholder that seems not to realize the danger of the situation is President Obama, who is now infamous for being the latest pen-pal of the supreme leader of the world’s biggest terrorist regime: Ayottallah Ali Khamenei (although, the latter never seems to write back!).”
The Iranian nuclear threat took center stage this week with Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of Congress.
The prime minister warned that the world cannot afford a nuclear Iran and Israel will, if necessary, do something to prevent it from happening. The main points of the agreement currently negotiated with Iran by the U.S. and leading European nations is a “bad deal,” he asserted, because it allows a regime that can’t be trusted to continue developing nuclear-weapons capabilities.
Obama dismissed the speech, which was boycotted by about 60 Democrat members of Congress, calling it “nothing new” and contending Netanyahu offered no viable alternative.
In contrast, U.N. special envoy Laurie Cardoza-Moore praised the speech as historic.
“He understands that he has been called at this hour for a time such as this,” she told WND.
“That’s also why he referenced the presence of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel in the chamber. Prime Minister Netanyahu understands that the threat of a nuclear armed Iran today is the same kind of threat as the threat to Israel that existed 70 years ago.”
Pamela Geller, author of “Stop the Islamization of America: A Practical Guide to the Resistance,” agreed with Cardoza-Moore’s assessment .
Geller told WND: “Netanyahu’s speech was statesmanlike and magisterial – powerful, straightforward and scary. He was in complete command. Obama should be learning from him, but instead he petulantly vowed not to watch.”
And talk-radio icon Rush Limbaugh described Netanyahu’s speech as a “direct punch” at Obama.
Continued Abbas: “Just to be clear, nobody disagrees that ridding Iran of its nuclear ambitions is paramount. And if this can be achieved peacefully, then it would be even better. However, [no] reasonable man can possibly turn a blind eye to the other realities on the ground. Indeed, it is Mr. Obama’s controversial take on managing global conflicts that raises serious questions.
“A case in point is his handling of the Syrian crisis, where according to his own philosophical views, Obama probably takes pride that he managed to rid the Assad regime of its chemical weapons arsenal without firing a single bullet. Of course, in theory, this could be quite an achievement … but in reality, the problem with what happened is that the REAL issue hasn’t been resolved; as such, the Syrian regime continues – until this day – to slaughter [its] own people (albeit using conventional weapons, you know … your everyday bullets, missiles and barrel bombs)!”
He wrote that the threat from Iran is twofold: its nuclear designs and “expansionist approach and state-sponsored terrorism activities.”
Noteworthy, he said, was that Iran used to plot terror secretly.
“Today the Islamic Republic seems so at ease that, as noted by renowned media columnist Diana Moukalled recently, it went public with documenting the appearances of Iranian General Qassim Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force.
In her latest column, [Diana] Moukalled wrote the days of the few, amateur shots of the infamous commander are long gone. ‘Since a few months [ago], photos of Qassim Soleimani have become plentiful and available in high definition.
Soleimani is no longer that secretive personality whose role over the past two decades has lingered been between myth and reality. He is now telling us bluntly: Yes, I am Iran’s strongman who is responsible for the Iranian military’s expansion in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Palestine,’ she wrote.”
