Hidden in His Hand – by Anna Darlene Edmondson
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1 NKJV).
Several years ago, a dozen friends and I started a shelter for abused women and children called Ruth’s Cottage. Here, they find comfort, safety, and their basic needs are met. Sadly, these homes are needed more and more as we live in an ever-increasing violent society. In a sense, people haven’t changed all that much since the beginning of time. The old wormwood devil tore up Adam and Eve’s Eden causing many people in the Old Testament to depend totally upon God for places of refuge.
Whatever the circumstances, it doesn’t matter for there is One we can always count on. We’re in perfectly good hands. Look with me, if you will, at a precious family who lived near Amsterdam in the 1940s. Cornelia ten Boom and family were Dutch Christians residing in the Netherlands during Nazi occupation. The ten Boom family built a ‘tiny hiding place’ to protect Jewish people from Hitler’s army. In addition, they fed, clothed, and transported numerous Jews, hunted by the Gestapo, out of the country. It’s estimated they saved 800 lives from the German Holocaust.
However, the ten Booms were betrayed by a (close ally) Dutch informant in 1944---separated and transferred to concentration camps. Corrie survived Ravensbruck death camp, but her sister and family did not. Later, Corrie traveled around the globe teaching the good news of the Lord’s salvation for sinners. On one particular occasion, she had the opportunity of releasing her bitterness when meeting face to face with her captors.
You see, if we are followers of Christ, we are hidden in the hollow of His hand and nothing can snatch us away (John 10:28).
