Syrian
war comes to Israeli border- Syrians Learn the Truth About Israel
As
the Syrian civil war rages on, thousands of wounded Syrians are
seeing Israel is a whole new light.
Two
heavy mortar shells landed in the Israeli Golan Heights on Tuesday
just a short time after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had toured
an Israeli field hospital established in the area to aid the victims
of Syria’s ongoing civil war. The mortars landed in an open area
and did not cause any damage or injuries. Military officials believe
the incident to be spill-over from fighting between Syrian government
and rebel forces near the border. Netanyahu toured the border region
between Israel and Syria together with Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon
and IDF Chief of Staff Gen. Benny Gantz. The focal point of their
visit was the IDF field hospital set up along the border over a year
ago to assist wounded Syrians fleeing the violence in their country.
To
date, hundreds of wounded Syrians have been processed by the field
hospital and sent on to larger medical facilities in Israel, many of
them receiving life-saving treatment. That was the case with a
five-year-old Syrian boy who was brought to the border on Sunday with
severe shrapnel wounds to his hand. The child was transferred to
Poriya Medical Center near Tiberias, where he underwent successful
emergency surgery and is currently recovering. Netanyahu said that
the IDF field hospital that had helped that boy and hundreds of
others “is the true face of Israel.”
