Chole’s story is one of many reasons why we have led this fight for counselors and clients who seek their help.

Chloe was just 13 years old when a therapist convinced her parents to put her on puberty blockers and started giving this biological girl testosterone treatments. 

She was 15 when the therapists told her parents they should have their daughter’s breasts carved off to match her so-called gender dysphoria.

The therapist had convinced Chloe’s parents that gender-confused children committed suicide if their God-given genitalia were not removed. 

Chloe and her family did not know there might be a better treatment for the girl’s gender dysphoria through Christian counseling.

That is likely because Christian counseling for gender confusion and unwanted same-sex behaviors has been banned in so many places.
 

Help us OVERTURN Christian Counseling Bans!

But Liberty Counsel scored yet another big win on behalf of religious freedom and the fight for our children’s bodies, minds and souls.

In 2017, the City of Tampa, Florida, caved to LGBTQ groomers by enacting an ordinance to ban talk therapy for persons seeking healing from gender confusion and unwanted same-sex desires or behaviors.

In Vazzo v. City of Tampa, Liberty Counsel represents marriage and family therapist Robert Vazzo and his clients, as well as the ministry New Hearts Outreach Tampa Bay, which were immediately affected by the ban.

The sacred trust between counselors and clients establishes a unique relationship that permits the clients to inform the counselors of their goals and receive counseling consistent with such goals. That therapeutic alliance has long been held sacred and inviolable.

The City of Tampa, however, stormed the offices of mental health professionals, thrust itself into the therapeutic alliance, violated the critical privacy inherent in such a relationship and disregarded the fundamental rights of the counselor and client.

No government should have the right to tell its people what kind of counseling they should receive. 

Tampa’s ban was, in effect, an endorsement and promotion of so-called transgenderism and homosexuality. 

By banning Christian talk therapy, which has been proven successful in healing gender dysphoria and unwanted same-sex desires, the city was effectively telling its struggling residents to stay locked in the cage of misery they were trying to escape.
 

Don’t let more cities ban Christian counseling!

Last Thursday, on February 2, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals resoundingly ruled in our favor. Tampa’s ban is unconstitutional under the First Amendment.

Thursday’s ruling is based on Liberty Counsel’s earlier victory in Otto v. City of Boca Raton in which the Eleventh Circuit previously ruled that similar bans preventing counselors from helping their clients in Palm Beach County and the City of Boca Raton were unconstitutional viewpoint restrictions on speech under the First Amendment.

But the battle is not yet won ...

More cities and states across the nation have bowed to the tenacious LGBTQ+ groomers and enacted their own Christian “change counseling” bans. Liberty Counsel is preparing to file suit fighting those bans, as well. 

We believe this fight may lead us back to the U.S. Supreme Court, where we have experienced many victories.
