Dear Friend,
Today, a clash among former allies is growing into a battle for the soul of our nation. It centers on the Equality Act, perhaps the most radical anti-family bill in American history.
Proposed this spring in the Democratic-led U.S. House, the Equality Act would require some churches, medical professionals, and business owners to violate their religious beliefs; jeopardize women and children's privacy and safety; and even threaten our right as Christian parents to raise our children as we see fit.
What's worse, that agenda is backed by powerful forces like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, formerly an ally of FRC on some issues. By endorsing the Equality Act, the Chamber linked arms with other radical progressive forces at work in our nation's capital.
Thanks to your ongoing support, FRC will stand firm on the bedrock values that have made America great: religious freedom, free enterprise, and government limited strictly to its Constitutional role.
But we need your help for the battles ahead!
Keep in mind that the U.S. Chamber has nothing to do with the chamber of commerce in your city. In fact, many local chambers are appalled at the national group undermining their own stated priorities.
For example, the Chamber lists "regulatory relief" as a key priority, yet the Equality Act mandates a whole new set of onerous regulations on every U.S. business. Indeed, in a post-Equality Act America, Big Business will regret supporting these radical social policies.
What will likely happen?
- If a day care provider wants staff to dress as their biological sex, too bad!
- If a family store doesn't have money for insurance to cover an $89,050 gender reassignment surgery, their loss.
- Worried about the costs of a gender-free facility overhaul? Get in line.
These policies will hurt families all across the nation. You and I can, and must, fight back.
Shockingly, on May 17, the Equality Act passed in the U.S. House by a vote of 236 to 173.
What you didn't hear was that, because of FRC's behind-the-scenes education efforts, the number of Republican members supporting this egregious bill dropped from 30 down to eight when it came time to vote!
FRC's efforts included submitting a letter to Congress, signed by a coalition of over 1,400 pastors and Christian leaders united against this proposed law. It said in part: "Simply put, this bill will harm men, women, and children, and stifle freedom. It must be stopped."
The Equality Act is now in the Senate -- along with our signed letter. It's all part of an ongoing fight I'll be keeping you updated on from Capitol Hill.
These innocent-sounding policies will impact all of us for the worse. The coming weeks and months are critical for educating members of Congress and our fellow citizens.
That's why I am appealing for your prayers and financial support for FRC, today.
The U.S. Chamber has chosen a side in the battles now raging over religious liberty. As the nation's largest lobbying group, the Chamber has spent over $1.5 billion dollars on Capitol Hill over the past twenty years.
In their quest to pass the dubiously named Equality Act, they partnered with tech millionaire and LGBTQ activist Tim Gill. His foundation has funneled money into the Chamber's nonprofit, which authored biased research in support of the bill.
One question stands at the center of this issue: Who do you fear more: God or man?
In every area of life and policy, FRC has seen that reverence for Godresults in better outcomes -- even if we face trials and persecution.
It's why we run public awareness campaigns, why I go on national TV interviews despite hostility, and why our Government Affairs team examines bills being proposed in Congress with a watchful eye.
FRC is mobilizing leaders now to send a clear message to Big Business: "You must STOP attacking your own customers' values!" We value your support to help us in this vital effort.
