Reflection of Self Says….
Robert Schaetzle
“As in water face answers to face, so the mind of man reflects the man.” Proverbs 27:19 RSV
We walk by faith trusting, ‘in Jesus,’ such that my image to others should be reflecting character to edify our Savior, in all we do and say. Whenever I read the above verse, I’m challenged not to be living my life for me but to purpose my actions in such a way as to reflect the One who leads me.
None of us will be a perfect reflection this side of eternity, but we’re challenged to be what God wants us to be. My growing and learning is a demonstration of letting go self as I learn more and more to see myself and put on Christ. My thoughts and mind are transformed as I learn God’s truths and let them take precedence over my own thoughts.
“That your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:5 RSV
The admonition directs my thinking to affirm; I am a new creature in Christ. ‘Sanctification,’ or growing more into Christ-likeness, starts and finishes as we see ourselves as this new creation in Christ. We come to Christ at his invitation to follow Him and the ‘narrow path’ he has us follow, delivers us from conformity to the foolish unbelieving world around us. Taking hold of God’s word in my heart leads me to find thousands of promises to strengthen the faith God gives me.
The mindset of my heart reflection is to share with others; the life I now live in the flesh is controlled by God’s Spirit, learning to be the ‘living sacrifice’ [ref: Romans 12:1] to His honor, not man’s reflection.
