WHO REALLY CARES ABOUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING?

Exclusive: Joseph Farah spotlights Obama complicity in 'victimization of innocent kids'

When President Trump recently declared this month to be “National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month,” I immediately thought, “Wow! What a great idea. I wonder if Barack Obama ever did that?”

So, I checked.

He had.

In fact, there was significant coverage of his proclamation in December 2016, just a few weeks before he left office – something Trump’s proclamation didn’t get.

But, while I was Googling in search of Obama’s actions on this plague, I found something else I didn’t recall.

It was a Washington Post story from Jan. 28, 2016, I had apparently forgotten about amid the glut of eight years of Obama horrors.

Here’s is an excerpt of the story, which I encourage you to read in full – something I don’t often do with Washington Post reports. The headline was: “Obama administration placed children with human traffickers, report says.”

The Obama administration failed to protect thousands of Central American children who have flooded across the U.S. border since 2011, leaving them vulnerable to traffickers and to abuses at the hands of government-approved caretakers, a Senate investigation has found.

The Office of Refugee Resettlement, an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services, failed to do proper background checks of adults who claimed the children, allowed sponsors to take custody of multiple unrelated children, and regularly placed children in homes without visiting the locations, according to a 56-page investigative report released Thursday.

And once the children left federally funded shelters, the report said, the agency permitted their adult sponsors to prevent caseworkers from providing them post-release services.

Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, initiated the six-month investigation after several Guatemalan teens were found in a dilapidated trailer park near Marion, Ohio, where they were being held captive by traffickers and forced to work at a local egg farm. The boys were among more than 125,000 unaccompanied minors who have surged into the United States since 2011, fleeing violence and unrest in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

“It is intolerable that human trafficking – modern-day slavery – could occur in our own backyard,” Portman said in a written statement. “What makes the Marion cases even more alarming is that a U.S. government agency was responsible for delivering some of the victims into the hands of their abusers.”

So, there you have it.

Obama was great when it came to mau-mauing about all the evils in the world, but he was weak on actual solutions.

Here is an example of how his actions in opening the border without considering the consequences for poor, desperate people – mostly children. As a result, he actually had facilitated the victimization of innocent kids by human traffickers.

Does anyone recall him apologizing for his actions?

I don’t.

And, yes, I went back to the search engines to see if he had. He didn’t. No apologies, no regrets, no change of policy as a result of the carnage he had inspired – even ordered.

It’s one thing to say you’re against human trafficking. After all, who isn’t, besides human traffickers?

But it’s another thing to fight it with every weapon in your arsenal.

My guess is that’s what President Trump will do. In the meantime, it’s a good sign that Trump made this proclamation not in his last year in office, but in his first.
