U.S. accuses Iran of being terrorist ‘arsonist’
By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Thursday, December 14, 2017
The U.S. offered what it called “concrete evidence” Thursday of Iranian weapons used in terrorist attacks, including a missile officials said was manufactured in the Islamic Republic, sent to rebels in Yemen and then fired at a civilian airport in Saudi Arabia.
Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., said the government was declassifying shocking evidence — including the missile and other weapons open to public inspection at a military warehouse near the Capitol — of Iranian activities. She said the weapons’ transfer breaks numerous international strictures, and said it’s time the rest of the world recognize the threat.
“There is no denying that these have Iranian marks all over them,” Ms. Haley said.
She said while all the focus in the last few years has been on Iran’s nuclear program, the country has been doing even more to destabilize the Middle East in other ways, including supporting the rebels in Yemen and meddling in other hot-spots in Libya, Syria and Iraq.
Ms. Haley said other countries were so worried about trying to keep President Trump and Iran tied to the Obama-era deal intended to delay Iran’s nuclear weapons development that they lost focus on those other activities.
“Now they actually see that the president was right. Now they see that yes there are problems,” she said.
