Reset Your Mind
Jennifer Woodley
‘For you are setting your mind not on divine things, but on human things.’ Mark 8:33 (NRSV)
Jesus rebuked Peter for rejecting the divine plan of His Father and limiting his thoughts to plans that were human centered. Like Peter, we too can become focused on human thinking rather than God’s intentions.
The way to keep our minds on divine things is to stay in the Scriptures, saturating ourselves with the instructions and promises from God’s Word.
We need to remain in His presence, not just in times of prayer, but throughout each day, acknowledging that Christ is with us by the power of His spirit within us.
We draw from that great cloud of faith-filled witnesses to keep centered in what inspires us to Godliness and living an excellent life for Christ.
We must persevere and run this course of action, constantly looking towards Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith.
Christ exhorts us to set our mind on the divine, not human things. However, Satan will do his best to disengage our thoughts from what is most important - centering ourselves in Christ – to what is least valuable – centering ourselves on the worldly, selfish, distracted culture.
We must strive not to be overrun by a culture alien to divine things. Let us set our minds on things above, where Christ rules and reigns. In doing so, He alone will rule and reign in us.
Take a moment to consider what is keeping you from seeing Christ today? What distractions lay before you just now?
What can be done to reset your mind so that Christ has supreme reign in your life?
