YELLOWSTONE QUAKE 'SWARM' RAISES DISASTER FEARS
'Be prepared,' pastor warns the nation
The “supervolcano” at Yellowstone National Park is being hit by a swarm of hundreds of earthquakes, according to researchers who have been tracking seismic activity this week.
More than 400 have been detected in the area since June 12, including a 4.5 magnitude quake within the park on June 15.
Researchers say the risk of activating the supervolcano is low and the quakes are nothing to be concerned about, as they are common in the region. However, others believe it is inevitable and only a matter of time before such a disaster takes place.
Scientist Michio Kaku recently warned on Fox News the supervolcano is overdue for an eruption and such an event would “rip the guts out of the USA.”
Researchers from the University of Utah, in contrast, have warned the risk is low, with the odds of an eruption each year being one in 700,000. However, if and when it erupts, the disaster would radically transform the entire global climate and devastate much of the Western United States.
Pastor Carl Gallups, a former law enforcement officer and the author of “Be Thou Prepared,” said in a fallen world, disaster is inevitable. And Christians should always be ready to meet catastrophe.
“While the current experts and forecast models are predicting that the Yellowstone volcano has a very low potential of blowing its lid anytime soon, the fact remains – it has blown before (in the ancient past), and even the experts admit that it is really impossible to predict when a volcano might erupt again,” he told WND.
“However, the current models also indicate that if it were to erupt (especially in a super-volcanic-eruption status), the consequences for a sizable portion of the United States could be catastrophic.
Regardless, the current swarm of seismic activity in the area of Yellowstone should, at the very least, serve as a reminder that we live in a fallen creation (Romans 8:19-22).
We continually face the potential for natural disasters regardless of where we live – and this doesn’t even take into account the disaster scenarios directly linked to fallen humankind: wars, civil unrest, nuclear attacks, EMP assaults, civil war, terror attacks, and so many other terrible things.
“Of course, since I operate from a distinctly biblical worldview, I do not advocate living in a state of constant anxiety and fear concerning what ‘might’ happen. That kind of attitude equates to living faithlessly and is completely unbecoming to our daily Christian walk and biblical witness.
The truth of the matter is that we are not guaranteed of another moment of life in the first place – every day of life is a blessing from Yahweh – every beat of our heart and every breath we take is ultimately in His hands.”

Still, though Christians are told not to fear, Gallups said it is equally mistaken to be sanguine about everything there is to come. Christians, the pastor said, have a special responsibility to guard against disaster so they can care and minister to their loved ones and communities.
“It is unbiblical to not at least give thought and basic preparation to the safety and provisional needs of our families, church families, and perhaps even those directly around us,” Gallups contended. “It’s a role the church has traditionally filled.
All one has to do is to closely examine the New Testament documents, especially from Acts through Revelation, to see that the church was constantly facing, and dutifully preparing for natural disasters, civil unrest, persecution from several sources of intense brutality, economic unrest, and the needs of desperate people.”
The former law enforcement officer said there are seven things everyone should have nearby in case of disaster. “I continually remind people to give thought to the ‘stuff of life’ materials that are necessary in worst-case scenarios,” he explained.
“Ask yourself, ‘What supplies would I need if I were required to shelter in place for a few days, weeks, or months?’ Make sure you have these seven basic elements nearby and in sufficient quality for at least a month: drinking water, food, shelter, proper clothing, medical supplies, important tools, and personal protection essentials. These are the basics. With these items you can survive even the toughest circumstances.”
The pastor said preparation of this kind is not just common sense – it is part of being a good Christian.
“If disaster of any type does strike, if you are already sufficiently prepared to survive that situation, then you will be completely free to minister the love of Jesus to those around you who were not prepared,” he said.
“This can be a huge inroad into true Jesus-style Gospel ministry opportunities. The smart-life and biblically faithful life is one of commonsense, thoughtful, and prayerful preparation.”
Yellowstone may or may not erupt soon, but Gallups, who explores the possibility the world is in the last days in his book “When The Lion Roars,” believes the world is in for turbulent times in the near future. He says American Christians, who are mostly used to easy living by global standards, should not take their comforts for granted.
“I pray that we do not have to live through excruciatingly tough times – but our American forefathers have always had to do so,” he told WND.
“They lived through the War of Independence, starvation, famine, disease, devastating natural disasters, the Civil War, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, and so much more.
Why should we be so arrogant to believe that nothing that would require our well-thought-out preparation? Why do we expect nothing will befall our generation? Remember, as the Scripture says,
‘The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.’ (Proverbs 27:12)”
