Recently, I mentioned to you a project I've been working on: a book about actor Steve McQueen, whose career reached fever pitch in the late '60s and early '70s. Even today, McQueen is still considered an American icon, nicknamed "the King of Cool." Cars, motorcycles, acting, style, manliness—you name it—Steve McQueen was, and still is, a legend.
Now, you're thinking, "That's great, Greg. But you're a preacher. What's all this got to do with anything spiritual? Why would a pastor write a book about a famous actor?"
Well, there are three main reasons I've written this book:
I'm hoping God will use this book to reach many people who normally wouldn't pick up a book about spiritual matters. The book is titled, Steve McQueen: The Salvation of an American Icon.
Will you join me in telling this story to the world? Let's get it into the hands of nonbelievers so they can see that even the King of Cool needs the salvation that's offered by the King of kings. At the end of the book, I give the reader a chance to make the same decision that McQueen did—to find fulfillment in God
By giving financially to the ministry of Harvest today, you can help promote this new evangelism tool, and you'll also receive a copy yourself as a thank-you gift for your donation.

Now, you're thinking, "That's great, Greg. But you're a preacher. What's all this got to do with anything spiritual? Why would a pastor write a book about a famous actor?"
Well, there are three main reasons I've written this book:
- I'm a fan. I’ve always been drawn to action movies, car chases, and shoot-'em-ups. McQueen's movies are first-rate in that respect. He's starred in so many great films. (I confess I own a replica of the highland-green Mustang used in the movie Bullitt.)
- Steve's childhood and teen years closely parallel my own story, so I connect and empathize with him in a lot of ways. Like me, Steve had an alcoholic mother who was married and divorced several times, had lots of stepfathers, got involved in drugs, never had a relationship with his biological father, was sent to reform school (for me, it was military school), and dabbled in drugs in an attempt to find meaning in life.
- But most importantly, I want to tell Steve's story because it ultimately points to Jesus. Many people don't know that very late in his life, McQueen became a follower of Christ, and regretted that he was not able tell more people about what Christ had done for him. I'm hoping this book helps to right that wrong to some degree.
I'm hoping God will use this book to reach many people who normally wouldn't pick up a book about spiritual matters. The book is titled, Steve McQueen: The Salvation of an American Icon.
