Trump Freezes EPA – No Communications, Contracts, Grants Pending Review
President Trump has taken actions to curb the activities at the predatory Environmental Protection Agency. They include a media blackout and a prohibition against the agency staff awarding any new contracts or grants. APreports that press releases, blog updates and posts to the EPA’s social media accounts are also prohibited. There have been no new postings to any of the EPA websites or social media accounts since Friday, inauguration day.
The Trump administration has put in place what it terms as a temporary suspension of all new business activities at the department. That suspension includes the issuance of task orders or work assignments to EPA contractors. The changes are expected to have a significant and immediate impact on EPA activities nationwide.
Similar communication blackouts have been put in place in the last few days at the Departments of Agriculture and Interior as well. The EPA’s public affairs office has been instructed to forward all inquiries from reporters to the Office of Administration and Resources Management.
One directive is quoted as saying, “Incoming media requests will be carefully screened. Only send out critical messages, as messages can be shared broadly and end up in the press.”
White House spokesman Sean Spicer said on Tuesday that he had no information on the blackout and that aides were looking into it. Doug Ericksen, the communications director for Trump’s transition team at EPA, believes the communications ban will be lifted by the end of this week. He said, “We’re just trying to get a handle on everything and make sure what goes out reflects the priorities of the new administration.”
Clearly EPA is an agency with a philosophical perspective that is 180 degrees from that of the Trump Administration. It’s only prudent for a review and internal messaging to take place, and for communications about those processes to be controlled by the administration.
An indication that the actions are appropriate and effective, groups that use the environment as a sledge hammer to force their agendas are up in arms, claiming a “chilling effect” on the EPA staff and their morale. Anything that makes them unhappy is probably a good thing.
One of those nut job, dishonest liberals is Liz Perera, the climate policy director for the Sierra Club. She said that President Trump’s move to blackout all EPA communications and contracts should be “a major red flag for all Americans.” She stated “EPA was created to ensure that all Americans can enjoy clean air to breathe, clean water to drink and have their health protected from environmental and climate threats.” Of course she’s lying, there was nothing about climate threats in the EPA’s mission statement. That is a perversion that the left has engineered along the way, once most of the necessary and legitimate work had been completed.
The angry toned video from Fake News CNN features a cracked voice woman claiming her worst fears are being realized. Wenonah Hauter, of the group “Food and Water Watch” describes it as a war on the EPA. Her group, naturally, is not the benign food and water safety organization as its title might lead one to believe. They are heavily into energy and climate, as well, the areas in which the EPA was injecting the most blatant tyranny into government. It’s good she’s concerned.
The report notes that $4.1 billion in federal funds awarded to states for water and air quality won’t be impacted in any way. It’s the rogue federal agency and its overreach through climate and other abuses that is being reined in.
Using the typical and familiar scare tactics of the alarmist left, the report cites a declaration by “scientists” that 2016 was the warmest year on record. Why not make that claim, they’ve made it every year since the turn of the century and continue to get away with it. That may be about to change as well. They may have to start including real scientists, rather than just their subjective grant whores for their climate data.
All of this and much more will be awaiting Scott Pruitt once he’s confirmed as the EPA administrator.
