Desire Peace – Stephen Thomas
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Isaiah 26:3 KJV
Let’s face it; sometimes we love a good debate. We love to debate sports, politics, and even religion. Often those debates require us to take sides. Sometimes, we get so fired up that we no longer act in a manner that is pleasing to God.
Yes, it happens. We sometimes believe that losing our cool is okay. Is it? Think about the cost of participating in those discussions. We give up the opportunity to live in peace, perfect peace, because our minds are no longer focused on God. Our hearts are troubled, and we are intent on winning.
Why not seek peace instead?
The next time you are tempted to debate, choose to think about Jesus perfect peace instead. When life brings storms, refuse to focus on the storm and choose to walk in God’s peace that surpasses all understanding. Commit to avoiding those things that rob you of your peace, keeping your mind focused on Jesus and how much better life will be as you walk in His peace during the storm. Pray for it now.
Father, as we start another day’s journey, we pray first for a desire to have the peace You spoke of in Your word. We pray that our hearts may desire peace and not chaos. Lord, we pray that you would guard our hearts and allow only those thoughts that are both godly and God-honoring to enter in. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Stephen Thomas is a husband and father of two children.
My comments: Desiring Peace does not mean we acquiesce to Evil, or do nothing in the Face of Evil.
