PRESIDENT TRUMP'S NO. 1 PRIORITY
Exclusive: Chuck Norris calls on new president to resume observance canceled by Obama
President Ronald Reagan issued a presidential proclamation on Jan. 13, 1984, designating Sunday, Jan. 22 as National Sanctity of Human Life Day. He explained that it should be recognized annually on the closest Sunday to the original Jan. 22 date of the historic U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision in 1973, when the highest court in the land ruled that individual state laws banning abortion were unconstitutional.
The annual tradition to commemorate the Sanctity of Human Life was continued by President George H.W. Bush, discontinued under President Bill Clinton, resumed under President George W. Bush and discontinued again under President Barack Obama.
Would it not be fitting for President Donald Trump to resume the commemoration, especially in light of the fact that he has pledged to fight for life and that Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (Jan. 22) falls on the very weekend he became the 45th U.S. president? It would reflect his words back in June 2016 at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Conference: “I’m with you 100 percent. … We must protect the sanctity of life.”
Restoring the value of all human life should be President Trump’s No. 1 priority, as that reset would rightly guide a host of other decisions and actions, including how we treat one another.
How contrary was President Obama’s first commitment when he became president in 2009? Obama emphatically promised then:
“The first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act,” which is a sweeping bill that would abolish all pro-life regulations across the nation, from parental notification laws to bans on federal funding of abortion.
It, fortunately, never happened, but that didn’t stop Obama from trying right up to the end of his presidency.
He not only dissed any thought of sanctity of life, but chose instead to annually celebrate the Roe v. Wade decision.
On Jan. 22, 2016, former President Obama even doubled-down when he commemorated Roe v. Wade’s 43rd anniversary by stating: “Today, we mark the 43rd anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade, which affirmed a woman’s freedom to make her own choices about her body and her health.
The decision supports the broader principle that the government should not intrude on private decisions made between a woman and her doctor. As we commemorate this day, we also redouble our commitment to protecting these constitutional rights, including protecting a woman’s access to safe, affordable health care and her right to reproductive freedom from efforts to undermine or overturn them. In America, every single one of us deserves the rights, freedoms, and opportunities to fulfill our dreams.”
LifeNews.com explained, “Although Trump campaigned as a pro-life candidate, he is a fairly recent pro-life convert, having switched his position from supporting abortion to pro-life in 2011. During the campaign, Trump made mixed comments about the Planned Parenthood abortion business but ultimately said he would sign a bill to defund the abortion company.”
The impetus for Planned Parenthood’s federal defunding might have just happened the first night of Trump’s presidency as he signed “an executive order minimizing the economic burden of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act pending repeal,” which will inevitably suck the financial wind out of the Planned Parenthood balloon.
Obama’s dirty laundering via Obamacare to Planned Parenthood needs to stop. It circumvents and violates the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for abortions through the Department of Health and Human Services (primarily through Medicaid), except in the cases that a mother’s life is endangered or her pregnancy results from rape or incest.
The fact is: There is a growing movement across our country to restore the value of all human life, including precious life in the womb.
CNSNews.com reported on Thursday: “The Virginia House of Delegates voted 57-36 Wednesday to adopt a resolution calling January 22nd, the day that the Supreme Court ruled that abortion was a constitutional right, a ‘Day of Tears in Virginia’ and saying ‘that the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia are encouraged to lower their flags to half-staff to mourn the innocents who have lost their lives to abortion.'”
Speaking of great leaders from Virginia, Thomas Jefferson explained in the founding of our country that preserving human value and life was government’s primary role:
“The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only legitimate object of good government.”
It is the reason that Jefferson created and penned in his own hand the words in the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. – That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government. …”
That enduring human value is echoed in Psalm 139:13-14: “For You, God, created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Or as the old classic 1800s spiritual put it:
