Border Enforcement Returns To America – Gen Kelly Confirmed For DHS Secretary
General John Kelly has a massive task in front of him now that he has been confirmed as the new Homeland Security Secretary. He’s taking over a department that in some areas has been, to varying degrees, virtually shut down for the last two or three years. That is particularly true in areas dealing with some of the most critical aspects of security, such as border enforcement. In other areas political activism has superseded the rule of law and the laws themselves under his predecessor, Jihadi Jeh Johnson.
His task, along with that of Senator Jeff Sessions to rehabilitate the Department of Justice after eight years of politicization, have to be the greatest organizational challenges facing any cabinet members.
General Kelly was confirmed by an 88-11 vote, with Senator Jeff Sessions abstaining due to his having been nominated for the Attorney General position. One of those voting against General Kelly was California Democrat Kamala Harris, an illegal alien advocate. She said, “I can’t look these kids in the face and offer them any guarantee that this guy won’t deport them, and without that guarantee I can’t support him.”
Only laws that she agrees with are worthy of Harris’ support, and the people who will selectively enforce them, as his outlaw predecessor did. The showboating liberal added, “For ethical and moral reasons, we have to honor our promise, the promise made by the United States government to these kids.”
That was an unconstitutional promise made by an illegal alien pretend president acting in violation of federal law. Not honoring it is the right thing to do, Harris, even though it doesn’t fit your agenda.
General Kelly did place a lower level of urgency on the DACA illegals, telling Harris, “There’s a big spectrum of people who need to be dealt with in terms of deportation. I would guess that they might not be the highest priority.”
He also addressed the border wall in questioning, noting that one complete wall across the southwest is not what he envisions. He said, “a physical barrier in and of itself will not do the job.” He noted that technology such as drones and sensors are also important parts of the border security puzzle.
Kelly, a four-star Marine General who headed the US Southern Command until he retired in January of last year, was the US military’s longest serving general. His career spanned from the Vietnam era and included three tours in Iraq and oversight of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. He lost a son, Robert, in battle in Afghanistan in 2010.
He takes over a wide-ranging department with over 240,000 employees and one of the worst morale problems in the federal government. He’s got a lot of capable people who have been forced to violate their oaths, the Constitution and federal law by the previous administration. They are anxious to get to work defending America under leadership that likewise has the interests of this nation at the forefront. Who knows what they could do with a little housecleaning.
