(IJ REVIEW) – The Obama administration is already catching major heat from the states for its plan on transgender students in public schools. Now, it looks like Texas is leading the way fighting the Department of Education’s directive.
The story blew up last night, after the The New York Times reported that the administration will pen a directive for public schools to allow transgender students to use the restrooms of their choice.
Texas, of course, was the first state to announce its opposition, as Governor Greg Abbott vowed to fight the new regulations.
Dr. Rodney Cavness, the Superintendent of Port Neches-Groves in Texas, told 12News that he cannot tolerate the mixing of males and females in his schools’ restrooms out of what he believes are safety concerns:
He ain’t my President and he can’t tell me what to do. That letter is going straight to the paper shredder. I have 5 daughters myself and I have 2,500 girls in my protection. Their moms and dads expect me to protect them. And that is what I am going to do.
