Planned Parenthood Did 378,692 Pap Smears--and 327,653 Abortions
Planned Parenthood Action Fund tweeted on Monday that women can “rely on Planned Parenthood for accurate and high-quality info and care, citing the "nearly 400,000 Pap tests” the organization provided in 2013.
The tweet did not say that during that same time period, Planned Parenthood also performed over 300,000 abortions.
According to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s annual report for fiscal year 2013-2014, its affiliated clinics around the United States conducted 378,692 cervical cancer-screening tests (Papanicolaou tests, commonly known as Pap tests) while also performing 327,653 abortions.
That’s approximately .89 abortions for every one Pap test.
“If anti-women’s health politicians defund Planned Parenthood, they would deny this critical, lifesaving health care to women in communities across the country with nowhere to turn for reliable, affordable care,” the tweet from Planned Parenthood’s political arm says.
But according to the Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) website, women who qualify can get free or low-cost cancer screening at various state health departments across the country through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). In 2013, the NBCCEDP "screened 208,682 women for cervical cancer with the Pap test."
Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, received $528.4 million in federal funding between July 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014, according to its annual report.
