MASTERS OF DECEPTIVE PERSUASION
Exclusive: Chuck Norris exposes Obama 'wag-the-dog show' to distract America
Editor’s note: Chuck Norris’ weekly political column debuts each Monday in WND and is then syndicated by Creators News Service for publication elsewhere. His column in WND often runs hundreds of words longer than the subsequent release to other media.
Democrats are the masters of deceptive persuasion, meaning that they will take our attention off of something they have really screwed up and put it on something that’s not quite as bad. And chief among those masters is he who resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington, D.C.
For example, let’s look at the bumbling intellectual idiot, Jonathan Gruber, who has repeatedly said that the key for passing Obamacare was the stupidity of the American people.
When Gruber was called before the House Oversight Committee to explain himself, while ducking and weaving the questions, even Democrat representative, Elijah Cummings, D-Md., couldn’t take it anymore and told Gruber he had just handed the Republicans “a public relations gift.”
I was shocked when Cummings said that, because he was more concerned about the production of a Democrat nightmare than getting at the truth of what Gruber said. That is politics at its very lowest!
So what did the Democrats do to take the people’s mind off this PR nightmare, as Cummins so boldly stated?
I can just see the White House and leading Democrats desperately trying to come up with something to distract the American people. (I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall as the panicked Democrats tried to find a solution!)
Walla!! Let’s release the CIA report about how the agency misled Congress and was illegally torturing detainees at Guantanamo on the very same day as Gruber’s congressional grilling!
For those who might be living on a political island, it’s called wag the dog, a strategy in which a leader diverts negative attention away from a politically damaging issue to an issue of alleged greater significance, which often builds up his character and reputation while tearing down his opponents at the same time. The goal being that attention to the latter event drowns out the negative press of the former event.
The classic example happened in 1997, when Tinsel Town produced a movie by the same name, “Wag the Dog,” about an American president who started a war in the Balkans to distract people away from his sexual scandal. Eighteen months later after its release, then-President Bill Clinton faced a sex scandal and actually started a war in the Balkans.
There’s no better tail-wagging Washington weasel than the current president himself. Or do you think strokes of deflective luck just keep coming the president’s way as his administration fumbles and tumbles in its cesspool of ineptness?
So, you think that the Democrats just happened to release a report shredding the CIA and Bush administration (again) on the same day as Gruber’s garbage testimony?
And I’m sure it was a coincidence in December 2009, at the very moment when Obamacare’s passing seemed to be in jeopardy in the Senate, that Obama ordered the mission for the U.S. to attack an “alleged” al-Qaida camp in Yemen that “allegedly” caused the death of civilians, women and children.
And I’m sure it was just a coincidence a few years into Obama’s presidency, when he was being hit hard from Main Street to Wall Street about the skyrocketing prices of oil and failure of his economic stimuli and policies, that he unilaterally decided it was a good time to start dropping bombs on Libya.
And I’m sure it was just a coincidence, when NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden prompted Obama’s scandal about electronic spying on the private lives of almost every voter in America, that the president thrust our attention oversees in his surprise “decision to provide lethal assistance,” including ammunition, weapons and airpower, to the Syrian rebels.
And I’m sure it was just a coincidence, when Obama and his Veteran’s Administration started to nosedive over the debacle in the veterans hospital, that Obama again lured our eyes abroad when he decided to trade Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five Gitmo detainees.
And I’m sure it was just a coincidence, when the select committee formed to investigate what really happened in Benghazi, that Obama and his cronies drew the world’s attention on how much they were concerned for the kidnapped Nigerian schoolgirls. (All that heartfelt concern despite Hillary Clinton, as secretary of state, “refused to declare Boko Haram a terrorist organization.”)
And I’m sure it was just a coincidence, when ISIS was hacking the heads off Americans in the Middle East that Obama put people’s attention over to Africa as he sent 3,000 military personnel to Liberia to help combat Ebola as the Pentagon’s “No. 1 priority.” (Remember Ebola – the virus the White House initially said would never reach the U.S.?)
And I’m sure it is just a coincidence, too, that Obama utilizes the recent race riots over Ferguson and elsewhere for his political expediency. (He actually prefers when others create the wag for him!) As the media and nation focused their attention on protests and race baiting, Obama pushed another executive order under the radar via amnesty for illegal immigrants.
Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who would make an exceptional director of Homeland Security, even said about Obama, “He built this racial divide. It was a wound that had been healing for a number of years, a number of decades […] and he reopened it with his divisive politics. … a divide and conquer strategy [that it has been] destructive for America.”
Obama has taken past presidents’ periodic political manipulation of wagging the dog to a new level of normative leadership in which all we see is his tail. In fact, Obama’s foreign-affairs policy has been built largely upon wag-the-dog decisions to get attention off his failed domestic policies and leadership, including Obamacare. That is what started this recent wag-the-dog show to get the American public off of Gruber’s testimony about Obamacare and onto the CIA report.
I must say, especially at this time of year when our military deserve our love and support as they are away from their loved ones during the holidays: The most heinous part of the release of the Senate CIA report is that Obama and his minions are more concerned for their own political hides and Obamacare’s survival than the survival of U.S. military personnel.
When I watched Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel order military commanders to be on high alert in direct response to threats over the release of the CIA’s interrogation practices, I thought, how could our Democrat Senate and president have allowed such a release at this time? Did they not see their friendly fire would ricochet off the CIA and directly hit our military personnel around the world?
Obama’s heights of hypocrisy are astronomical, especially when he called the CIA’s enhanced interrogation tactics “harsh methods” inconsistent with American values. Is the political pot not calling the kettle black when Obama preaches his moral diatribe from an Oval Office pulpit where he daily promotes civilian suffering and murder through his policies? Or did he already forget how he made “a decision to provide lethal assistance” to Syrian rebels, whose fight incurs a plethora of civilian causalities? Or what about how Obama deploys 10 times the number of drone missions than President Bush that have killed more than 2,400 people, 273 of whom were civilian? Let’s talk “harsh methods”!
Of course, Bush blaming and comparison has been Obama’s modus operandi since he started campaigning for president as a senator from Chicago. His blame game is itself another form of wag-the-dog or deflective leadership.
That is also one more proof why I believe Obama deserves an Oscar for his role as “Master of Deceptive Persuasion”!
Franklin D. Roosevelt hit the political nail on the head when he said decades ago, “In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”
